"Text has profane words"? WHAT PROFANE WORDS?

Is there a list of profane words or words the filter thinks are profane? Because it makes little sense to me, especially when the editor doesn't tell you what the words are exactly.

I was working on a mission and I got this message. So I deleted every word in the conversation(s) that might be suspect...even though they should not by a problem.

Deuridium?- check. Deleted the word, even though its a fake substance mentioned on the show (DS9) and its in the freakin' Star Trek Encyclopedia. Maybe it sounded to much like doo-doo.

Kobliad? Check. Even though the race of the Kobliads is again, from the show...and how could it be profane?

Penal Colony? Check. Even though you'd think the filter would at least know Penal is different from...you know....man bits.

NPC Contact names? The only ones used were "Franklin" and "Lynch".

I don't get it. Am I missing something or is there a way to find out exactly what word is causing this. Maybe it doesn't matter since I'm still seeing the warning AFTER deleting or changing those words.

The profanity filter only looks at letter sequences, without spaces. The way to troubleshoot a filter problem is to remove dialog sections (then add them back in) until the filter warning goes away. Then, work word by word in the offending section, removing and re-adding words until you clear the problem. Then, take a look at that word you removed and its neighbors. You may find something like "As succinct as that may be" can be rephrased.

The profanity filters are one of the weirdest parts of this game. I've been here since Feb 2012 and I still haven't really figured them out.

After taking duncanidoho11's advice I found the offending "word". I made a reference in dialogue to the events in in the TOS episode "Patterns of Force". The word "TRIBBLE" was the problem. I can kind of understand that, though I don't particularly agree with the word being flagged. Its not like I was promoting TRIBBLE, it was a reference.

It would help if the filter actually pointed out the words that were unacceptable, but whatever.

Good grief, they still have a filter that doesn't register spaces? That's weird because the forum has a more advanced filter than that, even the in-game chat has a more advanced (but, I do know, different) filter than that! Why on earth don't they use the same system?
That kind of error caused by not taking notice of spaces even has a name - it's known in the trade as a "Scunthorpe Error" :-D

The Foundry doesn't get much dev time. I don't think that the Foundry community as a whole would rank "updating the profanity filter" as a high priority. It's pretty much fine as is, except for the occasional word combination quirk which is easy to sort out once you know how to look for it.

Speaking of testing dialogue, here's something I wanted to ask before....in the past weren't we able to use tags to make npc's say sir or ma'am? (or am thinking about some other game?). I've tried [Sir/Ma'am] but it doesn't seem to work for me. Am I wrong with syntax, the memory or something?

As far as I know, there's no Sir/Ma'am system. I only started working with the Foundry a year ago but I don't recall it showing it being an issue for older missions. I just use "sir" all the time, Janeway took care of the issue for us in Voyager ep 1 (IIRC).

I could have sworn I've seen it before, but hey, I'm gettin' old...my memory ain't what it used to be. I'm probably getting other games confused with this one, like the City of Heroes mission creator or something. (wow, that takes me back. If they'd build a foundry in Champions I'd be in Hog Heaven).
