~Question about stacking Boff ground traits.

officerbatman81officerbatman81 Member Posts: 2,761 Arc User
If I have a Boff thats has both the physical strength trait and plasma weapon specialist trait and I give him an energy lirpa will he use both traits on the energy lirpa being both a melee weapon and a plasma energy weapon?

Thanks.

Nanopulse edge lirpa, exact terminology, does plasma damage.

Nope, I'd be surprised if they did stack...Physical Strength states that it increases the Physical damage type, rather than general melee damage, and as you pointed out, the lirpa actually does plasma damage. Although, given that the CC rep armor spent a period of time boosting the shotgun and had to later have it's physical boost specified as melee-only, never say never.

    Okay i get it.

What about this one. A boff has both the solider trait and plasma weapon specialist trait, shouldnt the ranged weapon buff and plasma weapon buff stack if he uses a ranged plasma weapon?

    Still curious about this.

Yes those would definitely stack. If both traits apply they don't cancel each other out or allow only one to have affect and not the other.

They all do stack but possibly not in the way that you would think, and what I am talking about is direct stacking. I have not personally tested this because the boost in numbers are sometimes too small for a 100% accurate reading.

In essence, you could say that direct stacking is when the multipliers (%) are added together for an increased multiplier. This is, however, rarely the case with STO. Instead you are generally left with two other forms of stacking. One being inital value stacking (starting value + percentage increase) and the second being incremental value stacking (modified value + percentage increase).

The three forms of stacking will have different results. The two highest increases in numbers are gained from direct stacking and incremental value stacking. Though, in STO you will often find initial value stacking (or base value stacking in this game).

For example, adding Plasma Weapon trait, Soldier, Rifle Training, Herald Kit and a reputation trait that adds 5% will generally provide you with initial value stacking. They are all possibly applied to your base value and may then be added after each other. If this is the case then it gives you the smallest yield but your answer is still answered - are they all applied in some form of stacking? Yes.

However, once you use Aim (30-40% increase) that multiplier is applied to the total accumulation of previous stacking. That is to say, incremental value stacking.

But stacking so many traits is generally better for your character than for your BOFFs, because you can use Aim and Kits. Boosting actual weapon damage outside upgrading/changing the weapon itself will not have big yields for BOFFs. The best way to affect their damage output is by picking a different weapon for them, like Split Rifles or Romulan Wide Beam rifles. Also, the performance of BOFFs can also be greatly altered based on what type of abilities they use.

If you are looking for a killer team I can highly recommend getting four Engineer BOFFs with Split Rifles or Romulan Wide Beam rifles and abilities like Your Choice / Shield Generator I / Quantum Mortar I / Turret Fabrication III.
