This is a friendly, open-ended discussion about this year's winter event. Feel free to say whatever you want, but do be respectful to other players.
What are you excited about? Found any glitches/secret spots? Any videos/photos? Want to share your thoughts on something?
I will go first. I like how STO has incorporated a Klingon tradition into the winter wonderland, incorporating more cultures into this event. The Christmas sweaters look good, but this year's ship looks smaller than previous years and doesn't have any hangar bays.

So many questions arise, but first I'd like to ask: Why would you wear a bathing suit to the Winter Wonderland?
Would you rather he not wear it at all? I'm pretty sure the suit is for the benefit of everyone else, not him.
Oh, THAT guy, I see him hanging out at Risa, often.
For fun. Obviously.
Just like wearing a winter coat to Risa.
And grats for that dude getting around the effin stupid map restrictions.
1. You've just hit the request to join the race for your 40 Winter Prize Vouchers and some one else than hits it a before you finish your transfer and you automatically lose the race while he gets to run it.
2. Removing all speed buffs from the PvP race. I guess they gave up on this.
3. Adjusting both races so that jumping and rolling flings one out of control. It should be about speed control, not key smashing.
4. Get Q to sit in his chair like a proper Q should. Seriously, nothing shows the lack of pride or care by Cryptic as clear than this bug which has existed for years.
Things I'd wish for:
- Switch one of the races out for snowmobiles.
- Stop doing just Breen ships for winter, or go back to doing just Risa ships for Summer. Be consistent.
- More hats- here and in summer.
Things I like... Klingon Ice fishing was silly add. But the whole place is about silly so it's good.
But in general, winter is a meh for me. I like the Summer event better. Quite a difference from other MMOs when its reversed for me. I think it's the ice races, I really don't care for them.
Too low of a reward for the time is the Cryptic standard operating procedure. It is a bit fun but when I saw what I was getting it took the fun away.
So far this has not happened to me yet. Every time I start the race no one else is there waiting in line.
Yeah, I feel the same way. I think I will get the best fishing gauntlet for one of my captains to see how much that reduces the chance of getting fragments. Last year's snowball fight offered better rewards I think.
I have mostly been doing the following events on a consistent basis and rotate all of my captains in sequence.
1 - Winter Invasion Queue
2 - Pie Eating
3 - Cones of Conduct - If it has started.
4 - CCA - This has nothing to do with the Winter Event, I just slot it in for easy Dil.
From time to time I do Klingon Ice Fishing but not very often. After upgrading to a better gauntlet I will likely do this event 3 more times to determine if upgrading to a better gauntlet improves the reward payout. If not, then I will simply skip that event.
From time to time I also do Recipes missions since I am not really doing most of the events.
That's been an ongoing problem since the very first time they had that race. I'm forced to conclude that fixing it is not worth the devs' time.
Yeah, I know it has been a problem in the past since definitely experienced it a lot back in 2014 and 2015. But this year every time when I go do the race no one else is there waiting on line... at least not yet. I have only done the race 10 times so far this year split between my primary account and my secondary free2play only account.
If they did this they'd need to remove the ice slip effect entirely. Currently the only way most people ever finish these races is by rolling or jumping.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
I would appreciate if Cryptic found a way to disable all speed boosts on the PvP race, though, so that it is an even player skill contest without equipment or traits figuring in.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.
-Captain James T. Kirk
if fish event replaces snowball it gives poor rewards.
Tough, but I defiantly look forward to the cool Breen ship as I associate some cool memories with its predecessor. I won No Win Scenario the first time with it. Perhaps I even give the ship to my main for a while.
Earning 100M quick ec with the doffed currency from last year worked fine as well. Of course all my 10 toons now need to recollect the stuff there the next few weeks but wonderland offers a nice and different surrounding from my usual doff spot. This is rather relaxing instead of grinding.
What’s most fun at the moment is trying to make a bit more original or even unique winter outfits. Since everybody puts on one of the new pullovers I decided to go on a different direction by trying to imitate different Christmas themed characters from German and international Christmas tales.
Let’s see how this works out but Santa Neela and K’riskind are already on the ice (and in ground PvE).

The free ship is nice, but I really don't need any free ships at this point. I've got plenty of T6 and T5U's.
Favorite things;
1. Tides of Ice - Love this event, feels great holding down your lane solo, slapping down 3 turrets and calling in the gingerbread Security Escort Team.
Also like when its quiet and like 3 or 4 of us hold down the fort, using good teamwork. Very satisfying.
2. Winter Invasion - Nice rewards, and recipes. Quick and fun. Yeti is always good for a laugh.
3. Klingon Ice fishing. After playing it a couple times, I enjoy it a lot. Was skeptical at first, but its a hoot.
4. Doffing for Ornaments at the Academy/ESD and Q's WW. Easy to do, and takes very little time. Good payouts.
5. Pie eating from time to time; Quick and easy, decent enough payout for time invested.
6. Q's WW marks a time of year when I'm just enjoying the game and not worrying about admiralty or doffing (other then #4). So for a month its easy going gaming in STO. And a lot of fun generally.
Thing I don't like;
1. Cones of Conduct - Not sure why, but this whole instance annoys me. Probably has to do with people not knowing what to do, and all the picks you have to make. I will probably never do it again.
2. Competitive Race - Not interested. I don't want a cuddly Epohh.
3. No more Lake Overlord unfortunately.
Other then that, I like the Winter event a lot. It's my favorite. Plus we always get great deals around this time of year. Its a happy time, and Q's WW is a happy place.
The summer event has been that way since 2014, at least for me. With almost all outfits ruined forever by map restriction and the kit modules nothing special, there just isn't any point in farming favors much.
