I have both ships both with elite frigate pets. I have coordinated assault trait soy mpbulai get Bo. Which ship and pets have the highest DPS, everything else being equal?
For pets, most of the pet-only runs I've seen tend to use a combo of Narcine carriers with Mobulai Frigates and Tholian Recluse Carriers with Mesh Weaver Frigates. Likely because those two pets do the most debuff, Mobulai for their Cascade Wave AoE debuff and Mesh Weavers for their Attack Pattern Beta plus Fire at Will to tag everything in range with it.
The carrier itself, T5-U vs. T5-U, probably the Narcine depending on configuration. +1 Sci console for more Plasma exploder DPS (also has this above the T6 JHDC too). Narcine is also fair bit more flexible with a LtC Universal, that can be used for some interesting things, if you're willing to be a bit light on Engineering (T6 JHDC also has a LtC Universal, negating this advantage). Narcine is a lot more maneuverable, meaning you can put DPS where it needs to go faster, which can be a huge advantage if targets aren't slow moving or static structures.
Overall, Narcine is still my favorite dual-hangar carrier. Still the highest turnrate of dual-hangar too.
Well, let's break DPS down into three things to simplify my thoughts. As you may probably know already DPS stands for damage per second, but what you may not be aware of is that there are multiple values that dictate your final DPS value, so to say. The following is a very simplified deconstruction of DPS but it will aid you in choosing between the two ships.
The obvious and first parameter is the actual damage that you you do. As in you and you alone; your ship.
The second parameter are external sources that still involve you but that are outside your immediate control. For example, your hangar pets.
The third one is related to the starting point and end point of your measure. In other words, your kill time in relation to your completion time (mission or objective duration etc.).
Now with this in mind, we can compare the two ships you mentioned to each other. In terms of actual damage of the two ships I would think they are quite on par with one another. They both have equal amount of weapon mounting points, and their BOFF layout are also identical. So in terms of 1) there may not be much difference between them.
However, the Narcine can be considered quite significantly more mobile than the JHDC. This will make it much more affective at 3) mentioned parameter, as it allows you to converge on targets and objectives much faster. This consequently leads to less duration of missions in relation to kill times. In other words, you end up with more DPS indirectly.
As for hangar pets, both of their frigates are very good. The Mobulai is more tanky and does a lot of AOE when these frigates swarm closely around their targets. The Attack ship frigates are also very good and may hit harder 1-on-1. I would say they are two different kinds of hangar pets. While their end purpose is to kill I would say that their functional purpose and roles differ slightly. It is difficult to say which one is better but the Attack ship probably lacks more punch.
So which ship is better? That's very hard for me to say. By using the Narcine you are shifting more DPS to yourself while using the JDHC means you shift some of your sum of DPS over to your hangar pets. Which one you should choose is a matter of your own play style, I guess. Do you want to rely more on your own ability to affect the outcome of battles, or do you wish to shift your self-reliance to an external source.
Personally I liked the Narcine more than the JHDC.
