people were saying that the game wouldn't last when I bought lifetime in a sale some years ago, personally I thought it was good value then and since that time they have added 3 T6 ships 1 for each faction plus a few other smaller extras.
personally I think the game will be around for a good long while yet, there have been plenty of major season updates & expansions over the last few years and regular weekly patches as well.
if you want to see a game that is likely to go long before STO look at champions online, it was struggling to keep players way back when I started playing STO and is still going and though it seems to have had a bit of a revival lately, according to steam charts its still lagging far behind STO with players only numbering in the few hundreds compared to STO that has players numbering in the few thousands.
if you also look at PW weekly top 5 games you will see STO is in 2nd place (yet again) and poor old champions doesn't even get a look in there.
although you cant really put too much stock in steam charts it is a good indication of how a game is doing and STO has a lot of years ahead of it based on these numbers, if they are keeping champions going and have been for all these years with such a small player base how much longer is STO likely to last?.
long enough for you to get your moneys worth out of it I will wager.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I'm enjoying the benefits and I play predominately Klingon.
its good that you are happy with the deal, I have characters from all factions and play them all around the same amount so I am getting the maximum benefit.

I bought the lifetime membership on Xbox One and have not regretted it one bit. I wanted those other playable races, and the android officer and the various costume perks, bonus ships and upgrades.
The mugato companion is funny. Take him with you on missions to watch him constantly playing catch up. He will vanish to safety during battles with ground enemies.
people were saying that the game wouldn't last when I bought lifetime in a sale some years ago, personally I thought it was good value then and since that time they have added 3 T6 ships 1 for each faction plus a few other smaller extras.
Another thing to consider is that once Cryptic has milked the T6 ships for all it worth, they will release T7 starships. When? Who know? Maybe late 2017 or more likely late 2018... Cryptic stated the earlier this year they have a story framework for the next two years. That framework will likely extend out as they release planned content.
To keep the LTS relevant at that point in time Cryptic will add 3 T7 starships (1 for each faction) much like how they added the T6 ships to the LTS when the level cap was increased from 50 to 60 and the T6 starships were introduced back when the Delta Rising Expansion was released.
I was worth it 6 years ago when they first went onsale. They are lagging behind for 2 years for LTS rewards since they thought about shutting down servers.
They have now a little extended life left due to consoles but not much longer...give it a 1yr or 2 at most.
> @turbomagnus said: > Personally, I think so between the extra ship, character and other slots, six ships, numerous costume pieces, a bridge officer, two new races that you can create captains as... > > I just wish that one of these times it comes on sale I'd actually have the money to get it...
I just wish they wouldn't be doing such a money grab and that a lifetime sub on one platform was valid on all platforms. They make you link the damn accounts, why can't they link the subs as well.
For PCs... it depends on how much/casual you play and how many alts you play with... if you're just on 1 toon, then no. The more alts you play the more you can justify the cost. Also just play with the assumption that the game will be shut down after 2 years time... I dont think it'll see 2020.
What consoles? Those ships are worthless and they have not updated the LTS reward system for over a year. There has not been anything new besides the Chimera Heavy Destroyer (T6) that you can get it at a Vet level.

Not worth it at all.
I believe they're referring to consoles like Playstation 4 and X-Box One; video game consoles, not consoles in the game.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"

Think about it... If there was any knowledge that there would be another Star Trek MMO coming, do you think STO would have been ported over to console? Using SWG/SWTOR as an example, do you think SWG would have shut down if TOR had not been released? Yes, SWG had its problems... namely with Smed being in charge and him trying to cash in on the WoW-style that NGE was supposed to emulate. But even through NGE, SWG did get better near its end and was probably getting close to getting back at least some of its older playerbase to come back. If it went F2P, it might have done even better.
I can't say if LTS is a good idea for consoles, however. From what I understand, there are some things (namely the 500z monthly stipened) that console LTSers do not have... at least currently.

It made sense years ago. At this point you have to decide if the game will be around in another five years.
Star Trek as a franchise will be around for generations.
Star Trek as a product always seems to be seen as one more year and never again. Why would PWE be anymore intelligent than to believe they can shut down in another year or two. CBS and Paramount have fifty years of such short sightedness.
So no, don't buy it. You missed your chance in 2011.

I really don't agree, like I said before champions has been struggling virtually in maintenance mode with just a few hundred or so players for at least the 5 years I have been playing sto and they have kept that game going despite that, given that sto has anywhere between 3000+ to 4000+ players according to the steam charts so probably far more as many don't log in using steam plus sto is at no 2 in PW's top games and has been for some time I would say sto is safe for at the very least the next 5 years if not much much longer.
granted it would be much better to have had lifetime for many years already but its not too late to buy and benefit from lifetime for many more years to come.

Actually for consoles, it depends on if you suffer from altitis. There is no subscription on the consoles so the LTS pack offers an additional 54 Inventory slots, 60 bank slots, 4 bridge officer slots, and 5 respec tokens in addition to the various veteran and LTS rewards. For the PC, players can subscribe for a month and level up their characters to get the various subscription bonuses.

I just finished a PTS session helping the devs look for bugs in a revamp they did to the queue system there.

i did say "virtually", in comparison to the support sto gets with regular weekly patches and plenty of seasons and expansions that has been added to sto over the last 5 years it is true that Champions has been running "virtually" in Maintenance mode over the same time period.
yes on very rare occasions they get a little extra content but in comparison to the content that has been added to sto over that time its miniscule.
when sto is running with the kind of support and game content updates that Champions gets it might be time to say "its not a good time to be buying lifetime as the game might only have a few years left on it" but while its getting the support it has been getting sto has a lot longer then just a few more years in it.

Enh.. the main thing STO gets that champs doesn't is new FEs.
This site seriously needs to separate pc from console forums. I thought you were talking about console LTM.
On console it's only $168 with the sale and since console started free to play, this really shouldn't be called a "membership subscription" but rather a large discount bundle.
Even though console is a lot cheaper than pc, it doesn't include the 500 zen stipend. Despite that, if a player looks at this as a discount bundle rather than comparing it to the pc LTM, you still save like $100-$120 at the discount price vs buying Ala carte. Imo, as long as a player uses all that's in the bundle and has $164 lying around, it's ok. I wouldn't pay the full price, not for consoles. Again, it's more like a bundle. The dilithium is good to have, the moment I go on a character I get a notification that I've refined x amount of dilithium, but zen would've been better.
short notice though:
At lvl 50 you can Claim a T5 Zen ship (which is mostly obsolete by now anyway) BUT on my 23rd century character I cannot get a T5 tokken ship. I'd like to get the full set for a Defiant - but cannot get the cloaking device without buying the ship for Zen - so I do feel cheated. I have reported several times...but they do have my Money, so they don't care.
18 characters
KDF: 2 tacs, 2 engs, 3 scis
KDF Roms: 3 tacs, 1 eng, 1 scis
FED: 2 tacs, 1 eng, 2 scis
TOS: 1 tac
all on T5 rep (up to temporal)
all have mastered Intel tree (and some more specs Points)
highest DPS: 60.982

If a fix requires any client changes it could be because they can't do weekly patches for console, because patches have to be approved by Sony and Microsoft and they are supposedly charged for patches after the first N patches per year.
If you're on console you have to accept that fixes will take even longer than on PC.
