~Loading screen wait times?

officerbatman81officerbatman81 Member Posts: 2,761 Arc User
This morning and last night i have been particular trouble with loading screen wait times, and sometimes even gets "stuck" and even disconnects and ill have to re-login the game.

Anyone else or is this me? I thought i heard rumblings here about people complaining about this recently.

Edit: I am referring to the map change loading screens.

The wait is usually due to the server having to create a new 'instance'. You can imagine when there are many people doing this it once, there will be a 'queue' for this. To be honest, waiting 10 or 20 seconds is no issue to me.

I don't know what changed but for me the game is loading extremely fast. Loading into game under 10 seconds. Mind you i'm also loading 36 extra direct x files which take up the majority of the time. Map changes are crazy fast. Typically from 2 to 4 seconds. I just tried DS9 several times as that's an area where people complain about load times and it was 2.5-4 seconds. From DS9 to sector space was 2.5-4 seconds. FYI I don't use an SSD. I do use standard hard drives in raid 0 though. And obviously I did not include the time of the warping in or out cinematic. Just talking about the loading screen time.

I've been waiting years for this. Curious if they changed something or it's just my ISP. I'm in Utah so it's not like i'm close to the sto servers.

And of course right after posting this my cable goes out for a few minutes. I missed a touchdown and get kicked out of the game. Damn my cable company. :(

Had this problem aswell where I got stuck on loadingscreen between maps, but fixed it by turning "On" Reduce File Streaming.
Options menu -> Advanced tab -> and then turn "On" Reduce File Streaming.
Dunno if this works or helps you.

Also if its already turned ON, you might need to turn it OFF and save the settings, and then turn it back ON and save the settings again for it to register, since it seems certain things have been reset with the update.
Atleast it doesn't hurt to try.

It will make the changes on the fly. However it won't actually save the settings to the gameprefs.pref file until you log out (don't use exit game although it just worked for me). Do what Claud said but after you select On, log out so you don't have to repeat this process if you crash before logging out. You can also delete the gameprefs.pref file. If you don't mind loosing some settings that is. This tends to fix a lot of issues.

I also use Reduce file streaming ON. However I did just test it with it OFF and exited ESD, Sol to sector space, then back to Sol then to the academy. Load times were ESD to Sol was 5 seconds and Sol to academy was 5 seconds. All the others were 2.5-4.0 seconds. Well actually one was ~1.9 seconds. :o So on my end at least I see no difference. That's not to say it won't make a difference for you.

A lot of people do experience your issue if they have "On demand patching" checked under options on the STO launcher. So look at that as well.

There's a recognised issue with the Client from months ago about this, which as posters above have given the correct info.

I don't get hangs, but I get a LOT of disconnects now. Well over 50% of the time I have to go through a load screen.
