Regarding the Fed/Tac lean on console, I think that's just because it's new. Fed is obviously because when most people start the game, the first thing they want to do is relive what they saw on TV. Roll a Fed, fly the Enterprise. For class, in any RPG the straight up DPS classes are always the easiest for a new player to grok. This is doubly true in the case of a game like STO which draws a lot of players for whom this is their first and only MMO, perhaps first and only RPG. "Kills stuff fast" is easy to understand and pull off.
As the game ages, players will want to branch out. They'll want to check out the storylines and ships on the other factions. They'll want to apply their knowledge of the game's mechanics to other classes and build types. I wouldn't be surprised to see that proportion shift toward Eng/Sci and KDF/Rom as the console game ages. Fed and Tac will always be way ahead, but not quite to the extent it is now.
This week, we cover BREAKING NEWS: Bryan Fuller's Star Trek: Discovery status change. Is it ever worth getting into the Star Trek vs Star Wars debate? Are they really so different that they don’t merit comparison?
I find your lack of interest in a Trek vs. Wars debate disturbing.
OK, really I love both, like lots of people. Sure they're sorta different: Trek is more science and techno-babbly and 'let's get along with all these weird aliens to solve problems together!', while Warz is more mystical ("Use the Force, Luke!") and a pretty straight light vs. dark/good vs. evil struggle; but they both generate that childlike sense of wonder and fun. And at the end of the day, that's what counts.
