As they are now to me both still seem a bit niche, but I'd have to give the slight advantage to AR. While VR can give players an incredibly immersive experience, it's also an isolating one; literally sealing a screen 2 inches from your face doesn't exactly facilitate social interactions with family and friends around you, so unless they have VR sets too (that be expen-sive), or you don't like dealing with meatspace people, you can't really do anything with peeps other than let them watch you wave your arms around like a techno-zombie. AR (ala Pokémon Go) at least doesn't block off interaction with the people and world around you; they can aid in your play, and the game can even generate social interactions in the real world if you happen to come across other players in your area.
VR's growing capabilities are remarkable, but I'd imagine that more people would want games that they can easily play with others, not completely shut themselves off from them. Call me when the Holodeck arrives...then we'll talk.

Besides a graphics issue that sometimes turn my game session into a psychedelic motion blur, things seem fine. Lighting upgrade looks neat (excluding the aforementioned blur issues), "Echoes of Light" was fun, though I wanted to spend more time with the Farpoint jellyfish. The new K-13 holding looks great...from afar, since I wasn't allowed to beam down to the station (despite doing just that in the FE), but I did enjoy watching my ship get pelted by roaming asteroids in the immediate area.
