Diplomacy Tier 4

roborobin96roborobin96 Member Posts: 107 Arc User
I have recently hit Tier 2 in the Diplomacy ranks. While I have been playing the game for quite some time now, I still don't know how I am supposed to get to the final Diplomacy tier. Diplomacy is a part of Doffing, but there are only so many missions available and the only give you a few commendation XP.

So what do I have to do? Is there any other way besides doffing to get there?

Now, mainly doffing. DS9 and Undine Battlezone's quite good places to pick up the better rewarding missions for it. My newest character (started when Temporal Recruit began) is past tier 3 in Diplomacy from mostly those.

Most of the diplomacy doff assignments are in the Alpha quadrant. The main problem is, the doff assigment areas @tacofangs mentioned eons ago (See https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/33eyli/sector_space_doff_regions/) when the sector space revamp appeared have never worked 100% and the Alpha Quadrant is the most broken sector of all. (See https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/3pdjod/mapping_sector_space_current_map_doff_missions/ for broken map reference). These problems have been brought up in the bug hunters forum, but ignored completely for more than a year now.

Actual Alpha Quadrant map where you need to fly to the lines to get the assignment changes:

Now, if you need a daily boost to diplomacy, fly to the Dyson Sphere Undine BZ, go to the doff assignment contact, and I think there is a single diplomacy mission that gives around 700 diplomacy XP (I might be wrong and it could be elsewhere in the sphere). Use the best diplomats you can afford (There are UR ones if you can get them) so you get extra. Should take about two months max doing the daily with good doffs to max out Diplomacy.

How the heck do I know all this if all I care about are usually drain builds?
In a past life, before they dil taxed the heck out of doff upgrinding and plugged bugs, I used to doff a LOT. The increase in doff prices from 3 years ago is partly because of the combination of the dil tax on doff upgrinding and plugged bugs causing an increasing scarcity of VR doffs. I also do accolade hunting on the side when I'm bored.

It isn't that broken. Just stick to the central area of Alpha Quadrant, barely crossing the borders that correspond to the old blocks, and scoop up every Diplomacy assignment under Current Map or your First Officer. If you don't go far past the block boundaries, you won't get set to the generic assignments. I was almost always able to keep 20 assignment slots filled with Diplomacy assignments doing this and picking up a few stray assignments in Beta Quadrant.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Compared to how it worked before the sector revamp and to how it's really supposed to work, it's extremely broken and annoying.

Compared to zoning every time you wanted a new set of assignments, it's less annoying and time-consuming. Just don't overshoot the borders. Could it be better? Sure. It would even be fantastic if the true assignments would stay up from the moment that you entered a "block" to the moment that you leave it, but I'll take the current level of broken over the old level of time-consuming any day.

Those blue rectangles for conversion zones don't exactly match what I've seen, by the way. The one at the bottom of the map, for instance, appears to extend well into the last sector in the East, if not all the way to the edge of the quadrant.

Thanks for your answers. I'll try out your suggestions and see if I have any success. I think it would be best to get critical success on the doff assignments.

@lucho80 : Do you know how much UR/VR doffs cost on average on the exchange?

Yeah, advancing Diplomacy can be slow unless you search around for Doff missions. I typically do one or two Diplomacy Doff mission every day on my AoY captain. Currently working on advancing to Tier 3. I am not going out of my way to advance it though.

As for very rare Doffs... that actually depends on the Doff's specialization and specialization bonus. For example, a vr Doctor probably sells for 1m - 1.5m EC, but a vr technician sells for at least 6m EC the last time I've checked (3 weeks ago). There is a highly sought after vr System Engineer called Marion Frances Dulmur that reduces weapon energy drain for 8 seconds when you use Directed Energy Modulation. I never bothered looking for that Doff, but I would not be surprised if that Doff was selling for at least 15m EC.

In short, the price for a vr Doff on the Exchange depends on a few things. Additionally, vr Doffs for Romulan and KDF factions would generally be more expensive than their Federation counterparts because most people play the Federation faction.
