New T6 Jem'Hadar ships question

I read the news on the Jem'Hader ship upgrading and I was a little confused. The info says,

"In addition to these added items, we’re very excited to announce the inclusion of new Tier-6 versions of a few of our previous Tier-5 Lock Box starships! Each of these new vessels will be replacing their Tier-5 counterparts"

From what this is saying is all the T5 dominion ships are being turned into T6. My question is are our T5 versions we have active going to automatically be converted to T6?

No replaced in the lock box rewards, no one is getting a T6 for free

Hey, but you get to keep your T5-U ship and admirality card. >:)

Figures they would do something like that by trying to resell the same thing to players twice. What they should do is make the T5 versions already active able to be upgraded to T6 using a starship upgrade token.

They did the same thing with the JHAS and it's T6 equivalents.

Because, when you opened your T5 Jem'Hadar ship, you got exactly what you wanted: a T5 Jem'Hadar ship. Just because the game changes in the future, and your T5 Jem'Hadar ship is made obsolete, doesn't mean you get a free upgrade.

Not so much the same since the T5 bugship had no console part of the set and the T6 versions are new updated ships with the console. The Dread and Escort carriers are literally being over written to replace the T5 and has the exact same consoles.

There are really only two ways to look at this without being contradictory.
First, you may think that the T6 ship is just the T5 ship re-issued, and Cryptic is trying to sell you what you already have. If so, it's simple. Don't buy it. Why would you buy something the same as what you already have?
Second option, you think the T6 ships are significantly better than the T5 ships were, and you want to buy them therefore. If so, you're clearly not being asked to buy something you've already got, are you? You're buying a new ship that's better. If it helps you sleep at night, pretend it's a completely different ship with a different name. It just happens to be similar in profile to something else you liked before.

If we say we want to buy the new ship, and then claim we should get it free or discounted because it's the same as what we've got, we're being willfully contradictory. Free stuff is awesome, no doubt. But it's not time for the Winter Event yet.

Ok, not so much the same because of the console thing, but my point still stands.

I'll just wait for them to offer a T6 Voth Palisade and pray they add some super drain boosting trait to it.

Meh. Personally I don't bother with lockbox/lobi ships. I would like to see the winter event ship have a not-terrible trait though.

I already have a wad of money in my hand ready to "re-buy" a new sleek and sexy T6 Llaihr (Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer).

Put some pilot seats on that beast!!

Enough players decided they would be 100% fine with buying a slightly different version of the same ship they already have at full price (without a discount). Enough players decided (with their wallets) that they don't care if Cryptic double-dips, they want the same ship they already have with marginally better stats and an additional starship trait and maybe a neat gimmicky console, and they wanted it yesterday. Enough players decided that they are willing to gamble with lockboxes all over again in the hopes of hitting the jackpot twice in a row to grab a T6 version of the T5-U lockbox/lobi ship they have already.

It isn't about what's ethical, what's moral, or what's right. The precedent has already been set. Enough players said they didn't care, and to bring it on. They're willing to throw hundreds (or thousands of dollars) at master keys all over again. The avalanche started a while ago, the pebbles no longer have a vote.

Well, pebbles have the same vote they've always had. Not buying IS the vote. And just like democracy, if enough pebbles voted, the "policies" change. I certainly don't see myself chasing this particular set of ships. But I won't feel bad that I'm sure plenty of other folks will jump all over it. I'm okay being the minority vote here.

You and I are both in the minority. But still, enough people are in the majority that they said it was cool. And that's fine. I like seeing Cryptic getting monetary support, and they could do so much worse with the execution of this T6 lockbox ship roll-out.

I may not like it, but I've gotten over it.

And lets be fair: the double dipping is occurring via infinity boxes, which are by far the best return on risk the game has EVER offered for master keys. "Oh rats, I picked up an amazing console or one of the best space traits in the game when I failed to pop a T6 ship token. Whaaah." For all the people who sell keys to buy the things they want instead of grinding Ec in-game, the infinity box is THE principle driver of master key value. Combined with the infinity box slaughtering the prices of various lock-box uber-tools, Cryptic's done a shockingly good job of moving towards a pay-to-win environment that's at least tolerable for those who don't want to ever give the folks creating their entertainment so much as a single dime.

So is the T6 JHDC going to be in the Lobi store like the T5, or is it being moved to the lockbox like the console version?

Given it wasn't in the box to begin with, I don't see how it could be "replacing" a version in the box. But yes, clarification on the lobi-store ships would be nice.

    @crypticspartan#0627 are you out there?

I tend to see it as buying a new ship model.

The real offenders to me were things like the original flagship packs - 3 identical looking ships for the prize of 2? Not really a great deal.

All T6 variants have a new customization options. Ships with interchangeable parts basically means getting 3 to 8 new ship design options. Being able to make a ship my own is valuable to me. I think it is a fair price.

Every time, every single time there is a new version of an older ship we get these threads. Le sigh

This time its a little different from past ships since they are being discontinued. The T5 versions are literally being replaced with the exact same ships with the exact same consoles with just a starship trait added and a hybrid seat.

Question: will the T5 skins be available in the tailor for T6 variants? Also, will they kitbash? My guess is yes, because the T5s are becoming unobtainable, and for many canon ship skins to become impossible to any longer acquire sounds very wrong.

That's a good point, given Consoles release schedules of ships, I can see the T6 treatment of existing lockbox/lobi T5s over a long period of time to be released as well and be placed in infinity boxes, which is great assuming enough players still open infinity boxes and not just for the new T6.

Thanks for putting it that way, was considering getting a T6 JHDC for my delta, a character that already has the T5 JHDC, but I never use command abilities on my ships that have the seating (command absolutely sucks imho, even if it does make sense), and the addition of a trait isn't enough to get me to buy it.

Please, someone provide an example in STO where an existing T5/T5U ship magically turned into a T6. It has never been that way and this still surprises people?

If T7 happens, I will be eager to see the tears flow by all these shocked players.

You can use the old skins on these T6s, but not kit-bash the two versions together.

Confirmed in tomorrow's patch notes as the JHDC being Infinity Box and JHEC being Lobi. I find it odd that the two are flipped in which store they belong too, compared to the how the T5s were. Particularly annoying as the JHEC got a specification bump and its console gained nice passives, and now it'll be more expensive when buying with EC than the JHDC thanks to it being Lobi instead of drop.

Don't forget that T6 ships get an extra boff power. 13 compared to 12.
