As of 9-27-2016 comparing Tribble's ST.66.20160824a.4 version vs Live's ST.64.20160709a.31 version.
I was surprised by some Improvements in some areas in regards to FPS. I also noticed not weird behavior but some interesting data. Or actually there was some weird behavior. Before comparing results i'll give you a run down of my computer system so you can test yourself and compare.
Win 10 64 bit version 1607 build 14393.187 (new install)
ASUS p8z68-v pro gen3 mobo with modified 0802 bios dated 1/15/2015
Intel 2600k cpu running at 4.4ghz
gskill ddr3 running at 2133mhz cas 9-11-11 command 1t
2*2tb raid 0 hdd setups with one using a 60gb caching ssd
Gigabyte G1 gaming Geforce 970 at G1 default speeds using 372.54 drivers
1920x1080 all settings at max and using 8xmsaa
So far I've tested 3 areas. I will probably add more if I get around to it. For now if you want to test the exact same spot do as follows. Get a Romulan toon. Go to New Romulus and enter the command center via the front door. This is test area 1. Do not move or change camera position etc. For the next test area simply exit the command post. This is test area 2. Next area is sector space. So beam to ship and exit system. This is test area 3. Again do not change camera angle or move etc.
Now we all know that just opening your character panel or inventory etc causes fps loss. What I wanted to test was not just the increase in FPS on Tribble vs Live but the loss of fps based on how many quests you have shown or hidden. For all test I have exactly 40 quests total. 1 test will be with the quest UI disabled and the rest showing how many quests are shown (not hidden) with the quest UI enabled. So let's see what I came up with.
Test area 1, Command Center
--Live fps/Tribble fps--
Quest UI disabled 88 fps/134 fps
Quest UI enabled with x quests out of 40 shown
1/40 quests 84 fps/126 fps
5/40 quests 81 fps/120 fps
10/40 quests 76 fps/119 fps
15/40 quests 73 fps/111 fps
20/40 quests 71 fps/105 fps
25/40 quests 69 fps/103 fps
30/40 quests 70 fps/98 fps
40/40 quests 67 fps/111 fps
Test area 2, New Romulus Outdoors
--Live fps/Tribble fps--
Quest UI disabled 49 fps/72 fps
Quest UI enabled with x quests out of 40 shown
1/40 quests 49 fps/70 fps
5/40 quests 47 fps/68 fps
10/40 quests 46 fps/68 fps
15/40 quests 45 fps/68 fps
20/40 quests 45 fps/64 fps
25/40 quests 44 fps/63 fps
30/40 quests 44 fps/62 fps
40/40 quests 44 fps/68 fps
Test area 3, Sector Space
--Live fps/Tribble fps--
Quest UI disabled 92 fps/108 fps
Quest UI enabled with x quests out of 40 shown
1/40 quests 90 fps/102 fps
5/40 quests 87 fps/95 fps
10/40 quests 84 fps/89 fps
15/40 quests 82 fps/86 fps
20/40 quests 80 fps/83 fps
25/40 quests 76 fps/80 fps
30/40 quests 64 fps/78 fps
40/40 quests 67 fps/87 fps
First off as you can see there is a nice FPS increase on Tribble. If something graphically was disabled I certainly didn't notice. I hope it means further optimizing of dx11. Also notice the increase of FPS on Tribble when going from 30 shown quests to 40. It's actually at 32+ quests where this happened. Which was 8 under the max of 40. As an experiment I also tried 50 total quests and at 42+ quests shown is where it also had the same behavior. It's odd In that it behaves this way. It's as if it's being told to use more cpu resources when 8 or less quests are hidden. It's an improvement btw so it's certainly not a complaint. Note that increasing total quests lowers fps as well. Increasing it to 50 quests would cause all of the numbers i've already shown to be even lower. This means that lowering your total quests is a very good idea for increased fps. I'd like to see improvements with all the UIs. They all drop fps drastically.
I'll test ESD and the Academy next and see how that compares. I'm curious if others are getting similar results.
