Hello fellow captians,
I just wanted to know, what the actual state of the game is.
I played the game rather heavily a couple of years back, but the steady decline of activity apart from the hourly blasting through that one borg mission via the high DPS channel, ppl wouldnt do much.
So as I never really dropped the game I wonder, what the current status is.
Is there enough to do (group as well as single player)?
Are there still queues for these instances?
Is it possible to catch up with the upgrading and rep farming in an acceptable timeframe?
Is the game "alive" as in enough ppl playing at all?
Thanks for any (honest) input

Depends what you like to do. There's still PvP (some would argue it doesn't work, but it does, it's just balance may be off a bit). There's also multiple PvE events, similar to the Borg ones you used to rinse though. Some of them are more strategic lately though, so will require a little less DPS and a bit more brain power. Some of them are good, some aren't so great.
As far as I know.
What's an acceptable timeframe? There's a bunch of new rep systems, and the fleet system, all of which take time to level through depending how much you can switch off and play repetitive content (nature of the game).
Despite popular belief, the game is always alive; there's always enough people playing the game at any given time, it just goes through quiet(er) stages every now and then.
Event queues are always full. Regular queues are not so much.
Also it's Star Trek so you must play.
PVP is in a coma
PVE queues are there, but only a few function on a regular basis. You ought to join a DPS channel for satisfying group content.
There is a lot to do now, although most of the new side content (crafting, admirality, doff) is more like a browser game.
Fluid. The state of the game is fluid. Even moreso than most other games because of Species 8472's involvement in the overall metaplot.
1- Yes. There's enough to do.
2- Yes, there are still queues.
3- Yes, it is very easy to catch up. It takes about 20 to 40 days of doing dailies. And doing those dailies takes less than an hour per day. But you don't need the rep, as a lot of the best gear in the game is crafted or comes from fleets. And you can get a lot of really good gear from mission replay.
4- The game is alive. It just went to console. And prior to that had an expansion release.
the point is, there is plenty to do and plenty of help even when you choose not to belong to a fleet
State of the Game = Very good, very active and easy to catch up with.
Except if you mostly play PVE queues, then the state is still "mostly dead except for the 3 popular ones" or if you love PVP which is and will always be, not your friend.
We just finished an AOY event or a 1/10th of a so called expansion...worst than the half a$$ expansion as it was LoR.
People are starting to complain about pve queus being empty...yet again
Fall is the worst season for STO...I'd wait till winter event to see more peeps and probably better queues if thats your thing.
Fleets are starting to get emptier again since console arrived and some are going to try that platform.
Don't listen to peeps here since some will say yes...its great and others perhaps worst than mine. All I know is that I dont see any of those same peeps in my fleets or queues. I know its seasonal and fall is not a great time for STO historically.
Good luck
