option to switch of chat, x1/ps4

there isn't a way to switch of chat on console. i don't mind having chat box up all the time but i don't even use chat the reason why i want the option to switch it of is cause i get spamed with links to mmotank in secter space. yes i think it's dumb how you can change the font size of chat text but can't switch it off

When you see that spam, REPORT IT. While in Sector Space, you have all the time in the world to do these things.

So, go to chat as if you are going to type something in, then use your left thumbstick to scroll up until it highlights the name@gamertag of the spammer. You will see a context menu pop up allowing you to interact by clicking A.

So, click A to interact, then click "report". The UI is a little buggy here, you will scroll to report for chat spam, then it will start opening menus in the background behind the report window, so you need to click B two or three times so it gives focus back to the report window.

Then simply click send on the report window, and it will say they have been added to your ignore list and give you a ticket number for cryptic support. As this is just a spam report, you can ignore this.

However, on the XBox, the Ignore feature is bugged as well in game....SO...you need to go back to the chat window, click interact on the offenders gamertag, and this time "view profile".

It will fade the game into the background whilst it brings up the XBox profile of the offender, go down to report or block option. Do both if you can, but using block here WILL mute them from chat in the game. I would also report the GT to MS as "unsporting behaviour", then add something like "spamming STO chat with known scam website".

That sure is an awful lot of buggy steps to deal with a gold spammer that shouldn't be there in the first place.

If you don't want to see Zone chat, either because of frequent spam or because it's Zone chat, you can use this to hide it.

Alternatively, you could add additional channels to the NPC tab and keep it on that, so you can switch to Chat if you do want to see if anyone said something of consequence in Zone.

I wish there was a way to either remove the "So and so has acquired their choice of ship A or ship B" or at least make it smaller, on consoles.

THIS. I have actually died because of one of these messages flashing up and obscuring a target that seemed to pick the right moment to get the correct shot on me, and I was unable to stop them.
