We are in Season 12 already and if you have noticed, they are kind of busy with Console releases. Give them a break for christ's sake!
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Perhaps summer 2017? Usually they break it down at least 6 mo apart (at min) from an expansion or season.
Probably at some point in the summer or at the beginning of Summer. It's hard to tell when Season 12 will come out, since Cryptic isn't that open about releasing announcements of season 12 six months before. We can expect an announcement at some point as we get closer to the end of those 6+ months. Plus, the recent console release has the Cryptic Dev teams busy. Give 'em time to sort out the console platform, then maybe we might hear from them then on any news.
Yeah, was thinking about this myself. It kind of sucks console was released as it was. I figured they would have held off on releasing until they caught up to the new expansion. There is quite a bit of stuff to catch up on and it looks like PC is going to take a backseat to the console for the time being unless they have seperate teams
working on each platform.
I'll give it a little while longer but there isn't much to do at the moment with the queues being in the shape they are in.
We are getting up to 3 months of no content after AOY and we had 3 months of no content before AOY. So far there was more content in 2015 without an expansion and that blows my mind a little that a year with an expansion means less content than usual for the game.
the lighting system and console are taking most of the time for the devs so i would wager early to mid october is when the lighting update will roll out possibly with a new mission or two.
jeeze the new "expansion" aint that old yet and you already expect them to drop s12? Pay attention to the previous cycles, you're jumping the gun by months

This is the real issue for me. Legacy of Romulus came out before I started, but Delta Rising introduced a level cap increase, a new tier of ships (with, what, six or seven available at launch, and another two or three added shortly after?) and something like a dozen story missions (admittedly including some disappointing patrols). AoY, on the other hand, gave us a new tutorial segment (calling the TOS 'faction' a faction is misleading, even with Romulans as a precedent), and a similar number of new ships and missions. The thing is, at least half of the new missions are the aforementioned 'new tutorial segment,' which while admittedly good, is much more limited in applicability (Delta Rising's missions were relevant to all characters).
Long story short, I played up to the Cardassian Struggle on my AoY toon, played the new story missions on my main, and I've almost exhausted the new content AoY added in just a few days' worth of playing. And it's the only new content there's been in six months.
Based on past schedules we should get it soon, and the release of an expansion has never changed a lot the pace of seasons. If it wasn't for the console release probably it would have already been dropped.
Right now 2016 is the least amount of content we've had in any year.
*points at consoles and lighting upgrade*Gee I wonder why
I think a big part of the problem is that most of the playerbase isn't seeing those, and frankly, neither of those is going to entice me (and, I imagine, most people) to play more STO. The console release is great, but I'm not about to start a new account on a console when I've got three years sunk into my PC account. The lighting upgrade is only visible on Tribble right now (and, I guess, consoles?), and even when it does come to the Holodeck, it's not going to expand the game in any way. Folks who really get something out of the game's visual appeal will appreciate it, but I'm actually slightly worried that it's going to push the reasonable system requirements out of reach for me, and even if it doesn't, I can't play a lighting upgrade.
The devs have been busy, no argument there, and probably even in ways that'll prove profitable for Cryptic (which literally makes it their jobs), but for the average PC player, it means a pretty long dry spell vis a vis content.
Seems to me though that the console/lighting updates are essentially programming, while game content is done by other people
I mean, to extent they need the support of programmers, but presumably they have content creation tools, a very advanced version of the Foundry, to produce new missions and such. Similarly, the artists and such who create new models and script cutscenes likely wouldn't have done much for the console version or lighting updates.

actually there have been a couple blogs iirc about that and I know taco has mentioned it in the forum at least once... but the new lighting changes require them to go over EACH AND EVERY SINGLE MAP IN GAME and rework them for the new lighting.
As others have said, I suspect the PC is taking a backseat to Console, so they can catch that up to PC, which I would imagine will be around 3 months, as they let the console version settle in and pick up a decent playerbase. Its not really been advertised on Console as such really, so is picking up on a "word of mouth" kind of basis. They won't let PC jump a full season ahead of console I would imagine.
I would hope the console sees 11.5 by Xmas (it's version 11.0 right now), but I wouldn't be surprised if its early 2017 before thats released. Once console gets 11.5, then they can put 12 on PC.
Guys it's true that 11.5 was released six months ago but mid-season updates were that, in the middle of the 6 months season. Season 11 went live 27/10/2015, so it has been a year. If they want to keep the previous pace they're late, a lot. If they changed their development cycle it's another story with other implications.

^This.
Also when I read the post title, I read it in a Tamarian voice. Maybe the response should be... "Tribble, the server opened".
The new lighting features are optional.
Thanks, this is good to know... although at some point I probably should upgrade my laptop anyway. For the record I'm not one of the ones moping about news on season 12... I merely commented on the point that was salient from my perspective. Totally get that the console push is probably a bit of a developer attention sink atm and have no problem with that... we are all joined in the Circle of Life, what is good for the goose and all that jazz. If STO becomes more and more succesful on the consoles it means a potential larger pool of resources for game development all round later.
