One thing to consider is that trekkies are big on touchstoning. So if it DOESN'T connect to what we've seen before then it won't be "trek"...
Anything that's not a rerun of their favourite series is not Trek to that sort of fan. Even then they'll probably complain because they're seeing it on their HD telly and not on a small, grainy set with all the original adverts.
Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Trek fans are a very contradictory group, they are fans of a show that promotes Exploring Strange New Worlds, yet hate change. I, for one, am excited to have Trek on the small screen again. If the first season is slow, then its fine. No Trek first season was spectacular.
