I took advantage of that spike in prices and sold some R&D boxes that I'd bought (like 8 of them). I was debating on whether to open them or sell them, but then when I noticed how expensive they were getting, I decided to sell them. I made a fair amount of EC from it and combined that with what I'd already been saving so I could finally buy that Kelvin Timeline Connie that'd I'd been wanting. So I'm pretty happy with how that worked out.
Kind of makes you wonder how people, who buy them at these prices to hold onto for the long term, will react when the price tops out and starts slowly dropping for a couple of weeks.
Every time I've looked or sold some they were between 15.4 and 15.6 Million EC. Of course you'll always get some listed by those knuckleheads at 20 to 500 million. The latter price is for those that like to use the Exchange as a Bank.

It's an investment, which carries some risk, leading to a service for those who couldn't buy the promo packs during the event or sale.
If it had no chance of profit and no one did this, or if Cryptic made the promo packs expire after the event (they do not), nobody could gamble at ~1.14% odds for their TOS faction end-game ships, and there'd be zero new in game or to buy off the exchange/trade until many months till it reruns again.
Time will tell how high they will go once the event ends and supply starts to dwindle.
Meh... missed my chance since I was helping my mom paint her apartment.
But prices should start to creep up since the 20% of sale ends today (in about 45 minutes at the time of this post). I am pretty sure that the price will get to around 20m EC again, or more. I have sold previous promo R&D packs for as much as 25m EC each. But at worst I have sold them for 16m EC each. For now the promo packs will just sit in my inventory.
I'd assume the promo packs spiked to 20mil because it was the first weekend of the sale, all the working stiffs just getting their first crack at this Promo Connie.
That's just my guess.
Never leave a good promo or lockbox release on the table, there is tons of EC to be made by playing a little Exchange Ferengi the first week or so of a new (popular - highly desired) lockbox or promo release.
Made about 550mil EC myself flipping Paradox' in week one of their release.
They were floating around the 300mil mark, but every evening they would dip to 220/230/240. It was then I'd come in and scoop up any that had fallen below 260.
I flipped about 5-6 over the course of that week. Most profitable time I ever spent in STO.
And this was on a Lobi ship of all things, and I was barely trying.
I would do it more often if I had the patience, or the taste for the finer things STO life has to offer. But I'm pretty good at this point, got most ships I desire, and my gear on my two mains is all fully upgraded. So not much motivation or reason to play Exchange Ferengi these days.
Although I must admit, Dil/Z exchange speculating does pique my curiosity. But that's for the really enterprising Ferengi's out there.
But I would wager you could make quite a fortune if you speculate with care and caution.

Hm I might sell some then, 75 million EC could come in handy at some point in the future
