The cap is $750 million. No one will sell one for that low. Maybe the first few days with a glut of supply there may be a few. After that it's the trading channel for over 1 billion ec easy. The odds are 1 in 100 boxes? That is like 25,000 Zen or $250 us dollars per ship. But you could sell 40 to 50 packs for $20 million ec each and have a shot at getting her. That will be only 12,500 Zen.

I can type random numbers too.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.
Not that I'm complaining - I'd rather trade / pay than gamble - but I still find it odd.
For that FUGLY ship...for real? I doubt if it would go for just 1EC or peeps just want to pay you on the contrary to get rid off it. The worst looking ship EVER.
That's where you get cheap lb ships.

which one?
Because other people do understand, and make great profit on that understanding.
That's assuming people are paying the average purchase cost (they usually don't).
That's also assuming people tend to be rational (they usually aren't).
That's also assuming everybody wants a lockbox/promo ship for personal use. Some do, some don't. However, energy credits are something everybody can use, and why people sell these spaceships on the exchange for energy credits.

While there has always been a vocal minority on the forums clamoring for a T5/T6 connie, there is no reason to assume they represent a majority.
On top of that we even have some people of said group who are boycotting the Constitution on sheer principle or are unwilling to fork over exuberant amounts of EC's for one.
And then of course we have the other variable, as to how many people are going to try to cash in on this and overestimate the demand and end up flooding the market.
The Point is, nobody knows what is going to happen.
It's not poppycock as you call it. It's an educated guess based on other promo ships. Tell me how many Jem'Hadar Attack Ships or Sheshar's do you see on the exchange?
Using the current status of previous promo ships doesn't exactly support your argument since none have entered the game for a very long time.
Well to be fair, the original Constitution class is a little bit more popular than a ship that appeared in a two episode arc of... Voyager.
Which, during its initial promotion could be found even below 500 million.
To be fair, the demand for the Annorax was never about its popularity, but rather the fact that it was the very best science ship in the entire game for all factions.
