I believe from the lobi obelisk carrier.

From the Dyson science destroyer. So either the one we got free a few years ago if you acquired it, the lobi version, or the c-store T5 variants.

It's another example of cryptic putting parts of sets in hard/impossible places so people coming along later cannot complete the sets. Same thing with the Samsar and the 4th command cruiser console.

The C-Store version of the Dyson Science Destroyer does not have the Solanae Overcharged Warp Core according to the following link. Scrolling down to the bottom of the page you can see a comparison of the various DSDs. The only way to get that warp core is to purchase the Solanae DSD from the Lobi Store for 600 Lobi Crystals. That's the 2014 Anniversary Event Ship. It's also the only way to get the Solanae Secondary Deflector.

The only way to obtain Lobi Crystals is by opening Lock Boxes with Master Keys either purchased from the Exchange (~5.6m EC each) or from the C-Store (125 Zen each or 1150 Zen for a 10-pack). Lock boxes rewards at least 4 Lobi Crystals, but I do nt know what the maximum rewarded is. Assuming you have extremely bad luck and only receive 4 Lobi Crystals from each box, you would need to purchase 150 Master keys to get 600 Lobi Crystals.

The Solanae DSD is the only Anniversary Event Ship that can be purchased after the event has ended.

Yeah they have a habit of doing this, apperantly exclusivity is what the players crave.

No, its one of the few examples of Cryptic doing it right and keeping the old content available. Entirely different than the Samsar which is lost forever.

I think all Anniversary Event ships are for gettin that +1 gear to a set (and always 2 sets - 1 form Zen store and one from mission):
Solenae Dyson Sci Destroyer got that Core for Defl/Shield/Engine and secondary deflecto for 3 consoles from Dyson Sci Destroyers
Kobali Samsar Cruiser got another Core for Defl/Shield/Engine and console for Command Battlecruisers console set
Krenim Science Vessel got Torpedo for Chronometric Wepons set from mission and console for T6 Flagships set

The illusion of exclusivity is the most annoying part of these sets. "gee, I was deployed overseas defending YOUR country from terrorism and couldn't log in to play your game and get the special ship,"

Cryptic replies: "sucks to be you!"

    Really?

So much this, also thank you for your service.

That is mostly correct. The Odyssey Star Cruiser and Bortas Battle Cruiser are available through the Tier V Fleet Shipyard. The Support Cruiser Retrofit fit has the superior Fleet Support Cruiser Retrofit available through the Tier III Fleet Shipyard.

Well... the flip side is that it can be seen as a reward for current players at that time who decided to take part in the event. The only reason why I have it is because I started to play STO in late 2014 before the 2014 Anniversary Event was announced.

I guess that was before my time. Which event rewarded those ships? Where they tied to a specific mission like the Obelisk Carrier was (which was also before my time)?

The Odyssey Star Cruiser and the Bortas Battle Cruiser were 2nd Anniversary ships in which you got a mission where you could test fly the ship out (It was a new ship class after all). After, you got the ship and it was a one time mission.

The Ambassador (and the Klingon equivalent Kamarag) ships were the third anniversary ships. Both came in limited time Tier 5 variants while the event was active. Temporal Ambassador was the first case of them ever keeping a ship as a reward (in this case, the only way to get the T3 Ambassador or Kamarag class).

The players crave the exclusive nature of the factions. Unfortunately, the majority of the Fed players want what the other Factions have, and have gotten a great majority of it. So the only way Cryptic can maintain some of that exclusiveness is to do things like put it in a hard to reach place.

take away what the Feds have from the other factions and you'll see a change in how people play. Mainly due to the fact that the number of Federation players drop as things like Plasmonic Leech returns to its original owners, the KDF.

    Ahh.... Thanks.

I neglected to read to the notes which are at the bottom of the STO.gamepedia pages related to those ships.

Now that they have the Console/Trait pack for the Vengeance maybe they can start doing that with these special items that are part of a set.

Oh, and with all this hooey about 'exclusivity', I note that those Special Limited Time Only Starbase projects keep coming back at later times for Fleets to pick up that missed it the first umpteen times around. So am I missing something here or do they speak with many tongues?

the obelisk carrier was also added to the fleet store through the spire.

Obelisk was not Anniversary ship - it was Delta Quadrant Expansion Promotion - i think
    Edit:
You right it was Solenae Dyson Sphere introduction (when Sphere Influence was Featured Episode)
The main diference was you needed to do the episode only once for ship, Anniversary Event ships (the
last 3 anyway) needed to turn 1000 Vouchers (or whatever it was called then) to get the ship.
Also Obelisk was not added Account unlock ship... like all ships that needed 1000 Vouchers...

it was still a special event ship you could originally only get through the event till they added it into the game.

and it wasnt the delta quadrant expansion, it predated the solenae sphere as you earned it by playing sphere of influence.

Not exactly. The sets are complete, but people who aren't around during the limited window of time that some of the pieces are available can basically never get them, in the case of the Samsar pieces or Summer and Winter Event ship consoles now, or will have to pay dearly in Lobi, in the case of the Dyson Science Destroyer pieces.

As someone who owns all of these, I can tell you that I wouldn't mind a fairly cheap method for people to at least get the set pieces from these ships. It really wouldn't hurt my feelings, or make it feel like the ships that I obtained were worth any less. It also wouldn't bother me to have the ships themselves be available in later years of the same event, as most of them used to be, or to have some kind of periodic special event that allowed you to obtain a discontinued old event ship.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

If you do not mind me saying: that's both theft and idiocy to put half sets in a game and then force one to pay for the last part.

You should probably look up the definition of theft.

With theft I mean: being forced to buy from a luck box to gain the last item(s).
And yes, this is a form of theft...

    From dictionary.com
    Theft. noun
    1.
the act of stealing; the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal goods or property of another; larceny.

As all items in the game are the personal goods or property of Cryptic, it is impossible for them to be committing theft by making players pay for something. Now, if they were to take something away from a player who has actually paid real money for that item, then it could be argued that they have committed an act of theft, but that is not the case.

By your reasoning, I could claim that they are committing theft by creating equipment sets that include only a warp core and no singularity core, which means they have stolen from every Romulan toon I have .....

That's not the definition of theft. That's not a "form of theft." No one is forcing you to do anything and no one has stolen anything from you.

Afraid I have to agree with the others. No one is forcing you to buy anything in this game. No one is stealing anything.

Sets are not crucial to any build. I know many people who only use certain set pieces because they can use that particular piece but not the other pieces to the set. So no, there is no theft going on. Cryptic/PWE are businesses and need to make a certain amount of money to keep this game playable for us. They can't give everything away for free.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

Maybe the definition of theft is different from where you come, but I pretty sure that "forcing" someone is never part of theft, and a different crime. For example, robbery or coercion.

But even then.. making you buy something if you want to have it is pretty much a core principle of our society.
