One thing I like doing is combining elements from other series and pasting them together, as it were.
Here's some ideas of having some Red Dwarf ideas in my anime style Trek.
The original U.S.S. Red Dwarf from the TOS era:
And the STO era U.S.S. Red Dwarf A. I used the Ascension class (forgot who made it, but whomever ya are, ya get all the credit), but with the distinctive red hue, and a new registry. In my stories, the red hull is made from a special metal allot called "Metalert" a Dalek made metal. (in the stories, there's a small group of renegade Daleks who reject the way of life the mainstream, imperial Daleks preach, and joined the Federation and is a major part of Starfleet R&D, and had a major hand in most of Starfleet's successes, such as the Excelsior class. In my stories, a Dalek is first officer on of my Vulcan character, T'Lar, which I'll go over in another thread). Metalert allowed the ship to withstand more punishment, and can safely reside in the corona of a star. Here's the Red Dwarf A, I placed the 2 ships above and blow for scale. I'm guessing it's Vengeance scale.
The Red Dwarf was made as a long term exploratory vessel, with missions lasting up to 30 years if need be. There's plenty of room for the 1,200 crew and family. There's a large forested area within, as well as industrial replication centers and a large hanger bay. It also can serve as a carrier during times of conflict, as well as serving as a mobile starbase if need be. Here it is being escorted to the edge of Federation space.
Some orbiting shots.
The Dwarf at a space dock (the JJ dock is probably one of the FEW things I liked in his rubbish films)
The Captain is Fleet Admiral Arnold "ACE" Rimmer. Based on this --->

Here's his bio sheet
He is essentially another Khan....but not evil.
Here's some shots of Ace in action.
Ace with his girl, a liberated Bolian Borg named Kantra.
More scenes:
With his buddy, Lt. David Lister.
With the Dwarf being out in deep space for many years, possibly, Admiral Rimmer has authorized an optional policy for casual dress during busy hours, and Ace is someone more concerned for the moral, well being and comforts of crew and passengers, not spit and polish of the brass, sorta like what we saw Ace say to Listers in the above video.
Here the main bridge crew of U.S.S. Red Dwarf on the bridge:
(Left to right: Lt. David Lister, navigation. Lt. KRY-10, general operations. Lt. Commander Kantra, chief engineer. Fleet Admiral Ace Rimmer, Captain. The Kat, non starfleet crewman, helm. Commander Kristine Kochanski, Science Officer.)
Here, before the Red Dwarf took off, Admiral Rimmer personally requested the assistance of Lt. Commander Cassy Morrison, and Lt. Commander Walter "Doc" Hartford, both having serving on the refitted U.S.S. Stargazer (Which is the main heroship of my stories, captained by T'Lar) to be part of the crew for the journey into the deep unknown, their scientific and engineering expertise being invaluable. Here, the 2 of them wait at the sky station of Cloud City
Shortly after coming aboard and getting all acquainted and comfortable, Ace and his senior staff brief both Cassy and Doc on the deep space exploration mission ahead. you also get a look at some of my take on Starfleet uniforms.
Here is Ace with his mecha steed, Darkstar. He's wearing a unique black version of his uniform, as a visual nod to Ace being a black sheep of Starfleet.
If the Dwarfers did Agents of Yesterday
Lister on his way to go aboard Red Dwarf, watching one of Starfleet's newest ships flying past on a colony world he was on.
An idea I was playing with involving the thought bad controls and monitors no longer being solid objects, and a sorta USS Franklin vibe as well
And ya gotta have comedy.
Here, mousey mousey..........I got a piece of cheese! I only wanna be your friend!
When a mission don't always go as one would hope....
From Admiral Ace Rimmer's ship log
Captain's log, supplemental. The new star system we discovered, consisting of 6 planets, initial scans indicated the 4th planet has a breathable atmosphere. We also found indications of intelligent life in the form of ruins, peppered all about the surface. Science officer KRY-10 dates the ruins to be over 20,000 years old, and that some large power source can be detected below the surface, about a kilometer to be exact. We decided to take a shuttle and land on the surface. About an hour of investigating the immediate landing area, Lister stumbled across a structure, about 12 feet high, buried in rubble. After clearing the place up, we found a metal door. Upon opening it, we found ourselves in a lift of some kind, and took it down below. I'll report any findings shortly
Captain Log, supplemental. The good news is we found the planet is not dead as we thought, for we encountered an intelligent species living below ground, possibly the result of some nasty war, many uncounted centuries ago. The bad new is that they are a very xenophobic society, totally hostile to any and all aliens. The really bad news is that they are also highly industrialized, and that includes the use of poloron energy based weaponry.
Lister:
"Why is it we never meet anyone nice?" Cat:
"Why is it we never meet anyone who can shoot straight?"
Don't let Lister drive.....
Ace:
I'll be in my ready room, let me know if there's any other way we can mess up tonight.
Doc:
Why I regret joining Starfleet, reason number 62.
