Geek Gasm Possible C-Store item?

I LOVED AOY. I get a geek gasm every time my toon pulls out his hand communicator to call the ship.

Any chance we can have the communicator show up on our backside like the phaser does on our hip?

Maybe this could be a c-store item giving us the option to purchase a vanity communicator (TOS/TAS, TWOK, Enterprise, etc) and animation?

I am not a STO coder, not a coder for any other games, but it seems to me this would be a big headache. I'd be cool, but...

First off, the communicator we see isn't an item, it is simply part of an animation. You only see it when performing that animation. Your phaser (or whatever your current weapon is) is an item. It appears on one of 2 "hardpoints" on your character: one probably tagged something like [HAND] and the other [HOLSTER]. It changes when you switch weapons. All this took a lot of coding to make happen, I bet. Oh, and then they'd have to accommodate those who DON'T want to look like they're wearing a Batman utility belt.

So, to make a communicator work, they'd need to make it an item, give it a hardpoint, make it disappear during the animation...

All for a faction that is, according to the story, supposed to be shedding the 23c gear as part of their cover as a Temporal Agent.

It would be neat, but it sounds like a pain.

This idea would have to be done as a costume piece. otherwise, yeah, nightmare to code.

To the Dev who came along in Season 4 (was it?) and made that weapon magically appear on my hip or back--something so cool that folks forgot it wasn't always there--thank you.

There is a waist item under Belts, scientist 2 I think. Half belt, has a tricorder, and behind it what looks like a hand communicator.

@crashdragon The tricorder is an emote not an equippable item. This is likely one of those things that seems like an easy thing to add but ends up being more work than it's worth. A costume piece would be the way to go.

Yup, have a new TOS belt item with a communicator attached. There'd be that moment where you might notice you've got on in the hand and one on the belt, but I think in general it'd have the right effect. :)

Another one I'd go for is a TOS tricorder chest piece.

Oddly one of Satra's props looks like a TOS Tricorder. (it's meant to be a med kit I think, but the resemblance is strong)
