Q on Skill book R&D unlocks, and AoY skill's

Hi,

I have recently returned to STO and have two questions (I did check, but couldn't find them answered):

1. With the new skill tree you unlock skill books you can make via the R&D system, some being set skills depending on your class and others that you have a choice to pick. What I want to know, are these choices you make permanently available or only available while you have it selected?

IE. When you get to the choice you can either pick Skill A or Skill B. Can you pick Skill A, thus getting in available in your R&D system, then spend a retrain token to change it to Skill B... and thus be able to make skill books for both Skill A & B? Or do you lose the ability to make Skill A when you retrain and change to Skill B?

I have quite a few captains on my account, and because this is my first time back since this skill system was done... I have nothing trained on them. So was contemplating best way to get all the different skill's ... whether I could use some on my saved retrain tokens to unlock them all on 1 character, or whether I'd have to choose differently on various captains where possible (ie if they both get Tier 2 Tactical, one chooses Skill A and another Skill B).

2. Regarding the skill training books for AoY 23c BO's, the npc selling the skill books does not have all the skills - ie such as Tactic Team 1 (23c) ((iirc)) - how do we go about getting these skills?

I used my account bank to ensure I had the money to buy the skill books, but found that the npc doesn't have all the skill books for all the 23c skills. And while I realize the skills are identical in stats/ability/etc to the normal STO skills, they do have different special effect's & visual's... so would like to have the max possible 23c skills on my BO's on my AoY character.

Thanx in advance for any replies :)

    1) You can only make what you have selected now. You could always select one, make a ton of manuals for that skill, and then switch to the other, though.

    2) As of now the only way to get that skill is to select the male Vulcan BOFF that you can get as a reward for the Tholian mission or to purchase one of the two BOFFs that has the skill from the BOFF vendor. A human and Andorian, if memory serves, and I think that they are both the females. I know the human is. Anyway, just go to the vendor and look at the skills those officers have.

The BOFF trainer does not have the manual and you can not use any BOFFs to make 23c manuals.

Hopefully they will make this right, and by "make this right" I don't mean adding the manual to the trainer during the final week of being able to get the extra benefits, or worse yet, afterwards, I mean making them claimable/purchasable from some point of contact in the game that won't require everyone making new characters or just giving every AoY at least one manual for free.

I also question the engineering BOFFs and the presence of two different photon mortars, only one of which seems trainable.
No idea what the other is supposed to be or how to train that.

Thanx for the answer. Guess I will check out the BOFF vendor for those BOFF's since I would like to have the skill... even if just for cosmetic reason's.

I also agree about the 2 photon mortar books. I saw the skill vendor selling two different books for the same skill and was puzzled, as only 1 was needed/trainable. Probably a bug/glitch or miss-done copy&paste of code... *shrugs* who knows.

And thanx for the reply about skill book making, making a ton of books and banking them is likely what I will do. I actually have a L60 char that I'm contemplating scrapping. Might use them to grab and make all the skill books with the free retrain tokens I have.

I agree, if you can't buy the skill books/gear once past the startup mission's... I hope they make them available for anyone to buy at some point. It doesn't make sense for the timeline to move from 23c to "current" and suddenly forget all previous skills, lose access to all previous tech, etc. Even if the skills/items are only buyable by AoY characters... it lets ppl not have to stress about having to transfer credits & dil to AoY characters to ensure they get the skills they want.
