New Faction feels weird

grazyc2#7847 grazyc2 Member Posts: 1,988 Arc User
I love the take on the 23th century all the way I noticed audio was taken from chars and put in the game, bad choice but if they had clearance who am I to judge their way on doing a thing like that, but maybe in a update they could check it because it makes it very cheap...
When I was on ESD in the 24th century I felt a climbs of betrayal on my part like hahaha you have been had...
It felt more like now you are a Fed officer nothing you can do about it.
But that said if I had to rate this, this is the worst and cheapest part ever I have seen on STO, are the sales so bad that they give us this mambo jumbo, I like the first few missions in this but when those aliens come around from the other time it spirals downward. When you have to play on in the 24th century and doing the Fed missions that's where the betrayal plays in. because I don't want to play as a 24th century Federation Officer, And I certainly don't want to do all those missions and stuff over and over again. I felt disappointed deleted my char and went back to my main. Another try to sell ships, close, and other stuff. I can only think on one thing if this is the case why not do the same for the Klingons and Romulans...
Ok enough said just wanted to share my disappointment with you... Well I hope they gonna do more in the future

Really? You only just found out that you would end up playing in the same timeline as our other characters?

Guess what? That's entirely your own fault.

You could have known this for weeks so I'm not sure where the disappointment comes from.

if you paid attention to the site news and forums before the launch you would have known it was coming.

They probably have a certain budget that they're allowed to spend.on actors for expansions like this.

We have Chase Masterson as Leeta, Vic Micnogna as Admiral Garrett (prime and Kelvin Timeline), Matt Winston as Daniels, Walter Koenig as Chekov and Chris Doohan as Scotty. Walter was probably the most expensive to get out of all of this.

They had to do voice clips for Uhura and Sulu because they probably couldn't get either of them to have the time to record lines for the game. Chekov in that one area I don't get why he was given a voice clip. As for Spock and McCoy, those two were voice clips because the actors are dead.

As far as deleting your character: It's your loss for deleting the character. You can always make another one before 6 weeks are up and change your mind but as of now you're losing out on some free account wide stuff that can only be unlocked using your Temporal Recruit:

-Rapid Support Space Trait (the yellow traits) which can only be obtained by finding all of the Temporal Probes & reduces the cooldown time on your Captain's Fleet Ability (Tactical Fleet, Science Fleet or Engineering Fleet).

-Critical Systems Starship Trait: Similar to Delta Recruits and how the Temporal Insight Trait unlocked, this trait unlocks a regular version at half of the arcs played and an improved version when all arcs on your character are played through & is for all characters once unlocked.

-Superior Specailizaiton Starship traits: For completing 3 primary specialization trees, you'll get a permanent unlock for all characters for superior versions of the starship traits from all of the primary specializations.

-Admiralty: A permanent boost to XP received from all Admiralty assignments will be granted to all your characters once you earn this reward for finishing all three campaigns on your Temporal Recruit.

-Reputation gear mark and rairty bump: After finishing all 9 reputations on your recruit, all your characters will have a permanent unlock that bumps all reputation gear to Mark XIII Ultra Rare.

There's also a unique doff for completing 6 tracks of the DOff system for all characters plus free R&D materials to unlock. If you say no to free stuff just because you don't want to run through content again, that's entirely your choice.

Heck, even the trailer for the expansion spoils your "death" in the 23rd century arc and recruitment as a temporal agent.

I'm wondering how the Superior Command Frequency is different from Improved Command Frequency?

is it just me or is Tac Team 1 (23c.) not able to be bought/make a manual to teach to a boff? i tried 3 times to find it and did not find it except on a boff i could buy form the dil store and then i could not make the manual. then when i got to the current time the power changed. i was not happy.

or actually any other "superior" starship trait from specs
if I were to guess it would be like this:
superior command frequency - either even greater cd reduction, or "update" to summon "better" ship or sth like fleet support summoning more than one ship [like for example one CBC and two escorts or sth like that] personally would put my money either on even greater cd reduction or replacement of summoning CBC with one of those temporal ships

all the rest I'd guess would be just increasing numbers....

Seems like the new car smell is wearing off already for some. I made i new character got him to just lvl 7 and couldn't go on and deleted him. Not going through lvling up another character in this game no matter what.

Budget effects just like the original series itself!
How is that not fan service
  • trennantrennan Member Posts: 2,839 Arc User
Its not a new faction. It's just another Federation Delta Recruit, as it is referred to as several times in game. It just has a new tutorial is all. If you cross reference, you'll even find the probes are in all the maps that the Delta Recruit information was. So welcome to Agents of Yawn: Another Delta Recruit, brought to you by STO: Servers Temporarily Operational.

The money grab part is always going to be true. So between now and the next expansion, expect at least 20 new federation ships(all of which will have generally the same stats), nothing to very little for the other two factions, and, of course, whatever half-assed fedcentric storyline they can TRIBBLE out. And the fault lies with the players, ships keep getting bought and very little else is asked for. I could blame the devs, but on this, it's the players who are at fault. And yes, before you say anything, a lot more people would play the other two factions, they just don't do anything for them and they never will as long as the players continue to buy the shiny new fed ships and not asking for anything else.

Me, I'm enjoying playing through the old content again as a new recruit. It's a refreshing change.

And I kind of got attached to my AoY and almost cried when he 'died'. Now I'm writing out how he's coping being 200 years ahead of his time. It's great fun.

If you're surprised at this (the whole bringing to the future thing), then you've had your head in a hole.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything. :D

It's a nice little add-on for the Federation players. Plus there are all the rewards for being a temporal agent.

The only part I take offense with is that your 23rd century guy doesn't unlock TOS uniforms.
I just discovered that one of the 23rd century Tactical BOFF is common...WHITE....IEEEE coodies,
so I had to replace him with something more colorful. Unfortunately it seems we only got access to the
TOS medical outfit and that IMHO is a ripoff. Do your 25th century toons not have access to 1 or 2
25th century uniforms? Covering all career colors? Is it asked too much to expect the same for
the new 23rd century toon and TOS uniforms?

Already bought that stuff before this expansion came up, they sell it like a Cadillac but once you have it you realize you driving just a Prius, no they don't necessarily disappointing me in that they want to sell stuff off course they should do this to keep the game going and my death is also not really an surprise. but I think if they wanted to do it like this they should have started in 31 century as an time agent cadet going back to repair the damage the aliens did to the timeline. that would be more plausible or bring in Q on this matter like TNG end series where Picard repairs the damage with the other Picard's. Something like that. The way it is done right now is hasty not very well done compared to the second expansion with the Romulans this is just garbage I never would have expected this from Cryptic to sell us this expansion, I would be ashamed to be honest to bring a game with such a good thing going on good story lines and all and then bring in this copy paste garbage. I think right now Cryptic lost it here let a good product, storyline go down the drain because of money....

There is one thing they should have done differently. Instead of placing us into the 25th century as a temporal agent sworn to secrecy, it would have been much better to either have them arrange for a USS Bozeman-like event (you get frozen in time for one and a half centuries by a natural phenomenon), or declare that such an event was going to happen anyway. Much less hassle with secrecy later on, and we could have just kept our TOS captains as openly TOS.

Good Idea like that one ....

basically they have done the level minimum needed to sell expacks so they could fund their pc to console conversion, i am less than impressed.. very less!!

where the last 2 expansions gave me zero buyers remorse on purchasing the full packs. i'm just thankful that this time around, with agents of yesterfail, remorse kicked in, prior to any purchase, thus saving me guilt on wasting any money.. even the base pack is worthless, in my opinion.

Long term player here. Quite enjoying the expansion so far. Just hit 40 and about to start the Romulan FE series.

I'm enjoying playing the missions again, and the implication that the whole launch story is basically a 50-Xanatos pile up between the Iconians, Na'khul, Sela, the Envoy, and Starfleet.

Im calling it as i see it , this expansion is just a blatent money grab to cash in on the 50th anni of trek

am i personally enjoying the TOS content? sure i like it though being forced back to the 25th century is lame, and takes it from faction to a over glorified tutorial.

I'm disappointed that there aren't more missions like in Legacy of Romulus. This 1-10 stuff is for the birds, they should have done 1-30 because there is enough TOS content out there for that. I would have felt much better buying the TOS ship pack like I did if they did 1-30 + 25th century missions instead of 1-10 + 25th century missions. Certainly would have taken the bite off of going through the leveling process more since that got buggered with the Delta Grinds.

I'm starting to think that all this so called expansion is for is to draw in new players, and isn't here to please the existing players that are here already

so they wanted to encourage new players to the game, by greatly reducing their starting options, while providing something that looks very dated compared to the old start of the game? how exactly is that meant to be encouraging to 'new' players?

this was nothing more than a blatant money grab, from current players, for the 50th anniversary. porting to console is their new player draw.. and us pc players are paying for it.

So how would you go about not being forced into the 25th century? That would be a parallel game with no interaction to other players. With all new content needed, which is of no use to a major part of the player base.

And after you said what you had to say before I said anything, I will ask something: how are you so sure? I don't doubt that more players would play them, I just doubt that it would be really substantial. Those who are inclined to play KDF or Rom already do, despite the shortcomings. Many players even don't try out different factions, if I read dev statements correctly - and the problems you have don't really set in before endgame. Granted, you reach it quite fast, but until then KDF or moreso KDF-Rom seem to be getting the better deal rewards wise.

Either way, this ship has sailed and the vicious circle is in full effect to an extent where trying to break out of it would be very risky - you would probably not get that many extra players, you will sell some shinies, but since the factionbases are not as large, it is doubtful that the amount of investment would pay off. Which I, too, am not too happy about, since more of my characters are red or green than blue or yellow, and I'd really really like a T6 faction sci ship for them as an example, but it has been asked repeatedly, but with other requested "rare" ships the sales didn't really reach the required numbers. I still think that some day some stuff will come, but I won't hold my breath.

"Blatant money grab"... umm, folks, Cryptic is a business. This game is a commercial operation. The concept of them wanting your money should not come as a shock.

I'm happy enough, speaking purely personally. I'd have been even more happy with more 23rd century stuff, but I'm not complaining. Well, not complaining much. Some things could have been done better, but hey, this is the real world, it's not noted for being perfect.
