Ok, I've looked around for a while and I think this may be an old bug, but I can't find anyone else reporting it (forum or google search - at least first 10 pages worth anyway).
Edited 04/07/16 - found similar issues with -
- Cruiser T1 (flicker from side above warp 20, not from front or rear, significant 'bounce' from front if zoomed out a bit)
- Delta Flyer (above warp 15)
- Light Cruiser T1 (same as Cruiser T1 but starts at warp 15)
- Mirror Danube Class (above warp 15)
- Mirror Escort Refit T5 (flickering above warp 15)
- Patrol Escort T5 (slight flicker above warp 22)
- Fleet Science Vessel Refit T5 (flickering above warp 15)
- Tactical Escort T4 (flickering above warp 12.5)
- Vaarwaur Pythus Fighter (starts flicker above warp 7.5!)
- Xyfius Heavy Escort T6 (only above warp 20)
Bug -
The Oberth classes model disappears from view, while viewed at maximum zoom from the side or front while flying in sector space above warp 15.
It is visible up to warp 12, at warp 15 the model flickers in and out, at warp 20+ it disappears completely.
Any engine visual effects (ie borg set, maco engine warp bubble, sol set engine flare) remain visible from all angles at all speeds, just the ships model vanishes (though the maco warp bubble is misaligned with the model, cuts through the saucer and warp nacelles on the top).
If you zoom out the model reappears, and disappears as soon as you zoom back in.
Viewed from a 90 degree arc behind the model is rendered correctly at all times.
I'm fairly certain it has to be the model interacting with the games rendering as I can recreate it on 2 different computers (desktop and laptop) and the issue is present on both windows 10 and via wine on Linux (you'd think if it was related to drivers/hardware either windows or wine would foul up, not both).
It is present on the current Holodeck and well as still present on Tribble. So I decided to post here, as I suspect it will still be present when the next season launches as well, probably very low priority...
PS. I know the USS Pegasus was lost to a malfunctioning prototype cloaking device, I just don't want my ship to be found years later half embedded into an asteroid somewhere on the Romulan border...
Edit-
As I zoom out slowly I've noticed that just as the affected models reappear, they seem to 'bounce' up and down as they travel. Zooming out further and the bounce stabilises.
The models affect the most by this 'bouncing' disappear from view at lower speed than models less affected.
The engine visuals are not affected by bouncing when zoomed in, and appear (minus model) to be travelling smoothly.
On zooming out a little on models with the 'bounce', the engine visual 'bounce' as if attached to the model.
Ship models affected by 'bounce' only, when viewed from front at varying level of zooms, but do not flicker or disappear when zoomed in

Is there an issue with the game and nvidia chips? (can't be the drivers as each computer uses a different driver, and wine is something else instead...)
I'm almost being to think that the bounce is the cause, if the model (which can really jump around on some of them) 'bounces' beyond the screen boundary's when zoomed all the way in.
Also models that have high levels of manoeuvrability in the stats suffer more.
