I don't know if anyone else has thought of this, but, I think players should be allowed 3 active specializations. That's just my opinion, though. Food for thought!

personally - lolnope - the limit on amount of specialistations is here because they are SPECIALISATIONS - it is something you specialise into to affect certain part of your gameplay - and by thus of course you need to make a choice what you are specialised into - even if the game took thing liberally allowing you to swap active specialisations on the fly - the point of system here is to force player to make choices - not giving them opportunity to to "slot all the good ones at the same time"
IF(and a big IF) there were a tertiary specialization, I would activate specs that provide bonuses to a players space and ground stats. For example: Command for increased max Hull and ground health, Pilot just for that increased turn rate, and Strategist for increased max shields. Any of those three could be a Primary spec, a Secondary spec, or a Tertiary spec if players value tough avatars/agile ships.
