Being 'optimal' in STO is like being 'optimal' at hopscotch. Sure, you can obsess over being at your very best, but at the end of the day you're still playing hopscotch.

STO at its very core is a ridiculously easy game. Get a ship because it looks cool, because it sounds cool, or because you really liked the ship in the TV show/movie/whatever and dream of flying one in a Star Trek video game.

But a classification of 'Dreadnought' in STO does not mean a whole hell of a lot. Neither does 'Destroyer'. It's just meaningless jargon that often gets contradicted as they come out with new ships that need to remain competitive, and new definitions for what makes something a 'Dreadnought' are always going to be on the table.

    All good points.

Being optimal is hardly needed in STO. The real issue is players buying these ships for the name under the assumption they're getting something they're not. I really wish that Cryptic would knock it off with the arbitrary labels that carry no real meaning outside of trying to get ships to sell better.
    Insert witty signature line here.

In doing some research a press release from Arc said that the Star Cruisers are supposed to be Fed dreadnaughts such as the Sojourner and the Endeavor. Anyone have experience with these as far as tanking and DPS? Am I mistaken about these being dreadnaughts?

The T6 Flagships are very good ships, they're right up at the top of the line for Feds.

It is odd, they're not listed as 'Dreadnoughts,' but I was playing a mission the other day ("Taris") and at the end, when the Belfast warps in, it's flanked by two 'Odyssey Dreadnought' cruisers.

It's just hilarious how Cryptic just throws terms around arbitrarily, don't get too hung up on getting a 'Dreadnought.' In this game it means absolutely nothing.

In universe, they seem to be dreadnought grade, though they're listed under cruisers (one of the artists did a very cool little pamphlet with the Federation basically calling them everything but dreadnoughts, but that's Starfleet's usual unwillingness to be too militaristic)
