Enhanced/Synthetic humans was a big Roddenberry thing in and out of Trek, doubt he'd complain.
Enhanced != Synthetic. The entire Khan storyline is about the danger of creating a race of superhumans.
Anyway, I think JJ trek is way too big of a mess to be implemented. Will they implement the inter-planetary system teleportation device used by JJ Khan that render every single starship pointless too?
Now you're just being silly. Oh, and guess who originally came up with the interplanetary beaming concept for Trek ? Give you a clue, initials are GR. Was going to be how they got around in TNG at one point.
Well, I for one, am looking forward to any incarnation of Trek. I liked it in the 60's, I liked it in the 80's, I liked it in the 90's, etc etc etc... I like Trek, and this is just another thing I get to sit down and enjoy...

I think I speak for the entire STO community when I say the addition of characters from the Kelvin Timeline to the game is a positive move, and I look forward to seeing the addition of other characters.
no. i can speak for myself, and i dont need your opinion rammed down my throat thank you very much.
so.... when does the 29th-31st federation show up and delete the jj-verse?

While the addition of JJ trek was inevitable, i doubt that the entire STO community or even a majority considers this a positive development. I most certainly do not consider this a positive move.
Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this guy is off his rocker for saying that he speaks for everyone.
Technically, I said I think I speak for everyone.
Do you really think that it excuses you? Your tone and sentence structure used in the phrase "I think I speak for everyone" (and variations of the phrase) mean you ARE speaking on behalf of everyone. Don't think you can just fly out because you can say "That depends on what your definition of is is.", it still makes you wrong in every way.
Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this guy is off his rocker for saying that he speaks for everyone.
He keeps the balance in the forums.
Sorry, I don't believe in forum gods. I don't care if he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. No one on here has the right to step out and make generalized comments on the forums and come across as "I have spoken, this thread is pointless now".
Bro, take a chill pill. Relax and remember @iconians has been on these forums a whole lot longer than you have.
His sarcasm was very obvious but evidently it went over your head. He knows everyone isn't gonna be happy about elements of the Kelvin Timeline being added to the game, but it's not the end of the world. Nobody's saying you *have* to play the missions.
I like it and the character is definitely interesting.
But he looks kinda old compared to the life action counterpart imo.
I'm going to put that down to TtC (and his team?) being limited by the age of the game engine. If it were newer (say, the latest iteration of the Unreal engine) then it what we would see would be very similar to how the character looked in ID.
I'm not so sure about that. I think there are already male face textures in game that can make a character look younger than that.
I think they made 0718 look like that for artistic reasons unknown to us. (Maybe it's just later in his life)

Alas, you'd still need starships to determine whether or not a planet was suitable to land on and live on without the use of EV suits. They're a helluva lot cheaper to build than starbases, and you can build more ships with the same budget that would only build you one starbase for the cost.
And we don't want to know why you had that bookmarked...............

TOS season I don't remember, episode, Gary Seven, titular Gary seven beams throught half the galaxy from planet we still haven't found because it is so hidden [afaik] to earth to save humanity from self destruction so they can live up to their brighter future,
same TOS, episode Gamesters of Triskelion, Kirk, uhura and checkov got beamed out of transporter pad by unknown folks half the galaxy and if Spock would have listened to Scotty telling him it is impossible to beam on such far distances, enterprise would have not found the triskelion - at all
do I need to look up more interplanetary beams in other "classic" trek series or will you accept those two examples from TOS and stop whining about khan transwarp beaming in Into the Darkness?
[although I must add, that I find it somewhat fascinating how apparently people are upset over khan transwarp beaming while no one of them seemed anyhow upset over iconian gateway tech allowing them to move everything everywhere as iconians wished, not to mention I've never ever really seen anyone complaining about ridiculously long range beaming of some "advanced factions" in TOS itself.....]

I wonder if the Emergency Medical Hologram from the tutorial (man, was his scene ever parsed in the current version) will encounter Spock from that Timeline???
JJ-Verse - wether anyone thinks it's good or bad or whatever - might be the only Trek some younger folks around got to know about. So adding that to STO can bring new players to the game (if properly advertised). And more importantly: it might give the "only JJ-Verse Folks" an overview to all Trek done before. What if some of them go to watch TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT? What if they decide they were better or at least different but still good? What if they demand more series and movies true to the "old style".
Sure a lot of what ifs. But the faintest possibility gives me hope.
Now a thought to the earlier mentioned copying from other scifi with 0718: How much was copied from ST since the 60s? My guess: way more than the other way round.
HAve a nice weekend everyone

Indeed, you would still need ships for exploration and military purposes. You'd need to find your target location in order to set up beaming co-ordinates... and in the case of a planet that would include rotational speed and speed of orbit.
It would be impractical to assault or send forces to defend a location in significant number. I imagine to send a decent amount of people over such a great distance would be quite taxing on energy reserves and thus prohibitively expensive. I also imagine the degree of uncertainty goes up with the number of people being transported and the space available at transport site. Sending 1 or two people carries less risk (and lets remember Scotty ended up in the middle of a coolant valve - although that was a fast moving target so further complications were involved (one assumes using Kelvin physics that the equation includes speed of space, speed of target location and area available within target location... and that Scotty/Kirk wanted to beam into a fairly open location that would give them some element of surprise).

Meh, the scientific knowledge of the writers on TOS was aweful, the scripts lacked consistency, but nothing that can't be retconed or attributed to god-like lifeform totally out of reach of the Federation, JJ-trek don't have the excuse of being half a century old. Mistakes made by TOS should serve as lessons for future creations, not excuses.

Truthfully, I suspect Roddenberry didn't really have strong feelings on augments and just did what he thought would make a nice story.

Sounds like that's based on Gene Rodenberry's Andromeda's AI's Avatar. I liked that show, esp. in the beginning.
Anyways, I thought he was just an android when I first saw 0718, so it's interesting to get to know his background.
