I don't think that time is the issue here, so much as a Ferengi captain in the KDF would make no sense. Sure, the Klingons tolerate the Ferengi as traders, and some even have a grudging respect for their commitment to their ideals and ability to get things done (see the books "The Klingon Way" and "The Left Hand of Destiny"). But letting one command an Imperial warship - no way.

The whole red faction in this game makes no sense. Arguing wether or not something should or should not be available because of lore values comes five years too late, where's the difference of a Orion, Gorn, random Alien, Trill or any other but a Klingon commanding prime warships of the Empire to a Ferengi?
Ferengi have an innate bonus to buy (fleet) commodities and it's not available to red players. I was sceptical at first too, thinking that this doesn't make too big of a difference, but it is actually noticeable. So at the very least the least played red subfaction/race should get the trader trait if they don't unlock Ferengi for red players, which frankly wouldn't damage the "lore" any more than it is at this point.
But I still think it won't happen, simply because it's so far off of any priority list no dev will ever ome around to do that.

Is any possible for STO add Ferengi playable race to Klingon faction?
Yeah, would be nice....I would dump my Fed Ferengi in a heartbeat, if I can get a KDF one. Need the discounts for the Fleet Projects, though....so, she remains, catching dust play-wise and pirating commodities and torpedoes for the KDF. And grinding contraband and events.

Ferengi had been, and still are in some areas, more marauding pirates then traders.
Never seen why they can't be KDF as well as federation, makes more sense to me personally that ferengi be pickable for the KDF right off the bat, let the handful joining the federation pay for it.
While I do like this idea and have no problems with Ferengi being a part of the Empire. The trade wars between them and the Syndicate would wreak havoc upon the Empire. Plus, being a KDF officer, means you have to have honor. The first time a Ferengi officer tried to cheat someone on a deal, well that ferengi would just get dead. So that's probably why, there aren't any Ferengi in the Empire.
I actually have to say that I do not want Ferengies in the Klingon Empire.
From what I recall of the DS9 episodes, Klingons do not think highly of Ferengies. At least the warrior faction of the Klingon Empire which controlled (and still does) the Klingon High Council. Non warrior Klingons like farmers, traders and scientists may have a different view of the Ferengies, but those Klingons do not set the policy for the Empire and certainly have no influence in the KDF military.
It has been a while since I last saw any DS9 episode, but I distinctly recall in the episode House of Quark that at the very least Ferengies were looked upon in disdain.

at the same time quark was allowed to be head of a klingon house, it sounded like a pretty important one too. and trusted him enough to accept his explaination of how said house was ruined. a more militant ferengi would have work for respect but I do believe they could earn it. pretty much the same as every non klingon.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Especially since the Empire in STO is a red federation where members of different races can become Dahar Masters and Klingon commanders, regardless of their race, when they proof themselves worthy.

It may be a while, before this happens; however, there are many Ferengi who seem approving of Federation/Human values, so I don't see why a few could possibly embrace Klingon/Orion/Gorn values.

I hope some day Ferengi can pilot a bird of prey as Dahar Master
We have new wind... in a few days
