I'll try to keep this short, because I haven't been around these parts lately, and it's easier and quicker for me to ask, than to attempt to read through countless news articles on upcoming content. Regardless, does anyone know the answers to the following questions regarding the console port:
1) As an existing Lifetime Member, do the perks I own reflect a [would be] console account, or would the subscription of a Lifetime member be required again for the console?
2) Are we likely going to be able to port our characters, dilithium and zen over to our console accounts for the game, or will the console release be a fresh start for all involved?
I'm done with the PC game, though (as I own a PS4) I'll quite happily continue playing on that (in time), providing it's not a complete reset and I don't lose everything I've achieved thus far. Worst case scenario, my PC progress is irrelevant, would not be usable on a console, and I'd just retire in general. Don't go asking for my stuff, I haven't quit yet (and with respect to that, this isn't an "I Quit" thread) - I'm here asking a question per the console version of the game before any wise joe's come in and claim otherwise. In such a worse case scenario, everything I own (that isn't bound) goes to the fleet I'm in.
Thaaanks!

Accounts do not carry over to the console version, so you would have to start completely over and would not have access to anything you previously purchased including your lifetime membership.
Sorry, it's not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth.
Anything you do in one will not transfer to the other.
Look. Let's say you bought an Abba* record back in the 70's. That doesn't entitle you to a free 8-track because the 8-track was invented and the studio decided to release Abba on 8-track. Sucks that only a few years later the cassette tape comes out but you've already bought ABBA on 8-track. But wait there's more! The same thing happened with the CD so you think you you should get a free ABBA CD too? No wait, now there is MP3!
Consumer version of entitlement. Sigh.
Here's what's cool, a company that was belly up a few years ago rebounded, made some huge hick ups along the way (don't think we forgot the t5u/t6 thing), and continues to support the PC game when they new shiny tech is right there too.
Don't go all reverse flash. Remember how fun it was when this game first came out and we were all leveling and exploring together? I'm pretty excited to have that opportunity to go all Benjamin Button on the PS4. I hope to see you there Flash. I look forward to levelingwith you.
LLAP.
*Say what you want. ABBA is cool!
Sorry, but this example doesn't hold water.
You're comparing two entirely different types of product in two entirely different ages of consumerism. To bring your comparison up to current standards, it's more like you bought a digital copy of an Abba album and you wish to play it on two different players. If I buy the album on iTunes, I can play it on my iPhone, my PC, or any device capable of accessing iTunes. We have purchased content digitally through Cryptic and they are running both platforms. Your example of different formats of hard copy media does not apply to this situation.
If I purchased that album on my phone, and then they wanted me to pay again to listen to it on my computer.. I would not be too happy about it.
In the end though, it's a moot point because all the arguing in the world won't change anything. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
But he or she has likely played all the content, rolled multiple characters, explored everything the game has to offer. Take away everything this player has purchased and earned, all the foundry content, and likely many friends made on PC. I know those factors would lead me to never give another platform a try. It has nothing to do with "company makes product x, then product y, and I feel entitled to everything". This is a port of an existing game, which is great, but it's a massive leap to say this is a new product.
A better analogy would be that you have this car:
Then the car company offered you this car to drive at no cost:
This new car has special rights to allow you to drive on a new highway to get to town - though the commute is no faster than your current route. And of course, it has a new unique paint job. Your current car is painted midnight black and the new car is painted premium piano black. Oddly though, the company will paint your current car this new color, at no cost to the customer, thus negating this particular benefit the new car may have.
What's worse is that your current car tends to break down randomly (SNRs), and is plagued with huge mechanical problems (lag). You've spent a ton of money (or time) getting neons, rims, exhaust, a huge spoiler, custom interior, and have perfectly calibrated seat/mirror/steering column settings. Of course, you could throw money at the new car to make it on par with your current car. Even with all the problems and the steep investment requirements, you consider a new car because you love the brand.
I'm with Flash, I see zero point in wasting my time on a Model T if I have an R8 in the garage.
Sure, you may want your purchases on PC to carry over to console, but when you compare the potential console character of an STO "veteran" (with account-wide purchases available) versus that of a console newbie, you'll end up with more than a few unhappy people. If that PC-vet has to start fresh (like with ANY console-PC/vice versa port) in spite of the fact that they have contributed to the game previously, then it's more of any even footing determined purely by how much time you're able to invest in STOC.
I wouldn't mind giving the console version a go, but I'd need to be extremely done with the game on PC before that'd happen. As in, "exhausted all ways to play the game and gotten all gear to Mk XIV Epic across all characters and factions" done..not "bored that there's nothing to do because I've burnt myself out rushing through content" done.
Actually, those XBox One and PS4 links at the top will likely point to different forums, once those platforms go live. There will be slight differences due to the consoles having more testing for patches which will put them behind the PC version.
Yep, Executive Producer Steve Ricossa stated there will not be any account transfers because Cryptic wants players to be the same footing as each other. The purpose of the consoles are to attract an untapped source of potential gamers who plays games on consoles rather than PCs.
And yes, it would seem that consoles will be 6 months / half a season behind PC since the AoY Expansion is not expected to be released until early 2017.
I can imagine a situation where STO PC gamers would troll the new console players in PvP with their 80k+ DPS ships if they were allowed to transfer their accounts. Or perhaps PC players trying to hawk a Plasmonic Leech for 70 million EC on the console Exchange.
I know the STO console will not have any of the assets for the event ships through Risa Summer 2016. The only exception would be the Dyson DSD from the 2014 Anniversary because that ship is used in A Step Between Stars. As for lock boxes, yeah I would imagine the only lock box for STO console on launch will be the Na'kuhl lock boxes. There is no reason to offer older lock boxes. If that is the case, then yeah, at lot of trait, ship, and weapon assets can be excluded as well.
Personally, I don't really care since I do not have a console.
I kinda think that the old lockboxes will come back in some form on the consoles. I kinda hope they will assemble a bit of a "meta"-lockboxes. They could make one for anything before Delta Rising, for example, that gives the chance to grant any of the old Tier 5 or Mirror ships and other items in the old lockboxes.
