So... AYO is here and I'm debating on my agent's endgame ship.
I would love to take the Ranger. So do we know by now? Because if it can't go T5U it is a bust as far as my purchase goes. Would appreciate any info
I doubt it, since it has a T6 version in the store ...
I know but can't be asked to pay 50$ for a single ship visual I want. T5U is enough for me, as I have a ton of T6's and unlocked traits to fit out well. Also, so far, every other T5 ship on the C-Store is upgradable. My worry is they pull some arbitrary shenanigans like they did with mirror and FC ships and say you can't upgrade because reasons.
20$ hurts way less and I have a spare token lying around.

That's got nothing to do with it. Here's how it works:
Can't be upgraded: T5 "leveling" ships (i.e., ones you can get at level 40 with the free token), ships that were first introduced as mission rewards (e.g., 2nd and 3rd anniversary ships, standard Obelisk), ships that only cost Fleet Credits (e.g., non-Fleet retrofits and Aquarius), lockbox "booby prize" ships prior to DR
Can be upgraded with a token: T5 C-Store ships, fleet ships (i.e., ones that cost fleet modules), "booby prize" ships from DR onwards
Can be upgraded for free: T5 lockbox "grand prize" ships, T5 lobi ships that weren't originally introduced as mission rewards (so, all but the Obelisk), T5 vet destroyers
So unless Cryptic is bucking the pattern that's been in place since DR, the Ranger should be upgradeable.

It's also the first non-lockbox T5 ship to be released since DR. I'm helping my 4 year old with something, when I'm finished I'll claim it and see if it let's me upgrade it.

Welp, looks like you were right. I just claimed mine, and it has no mastery tab and no upgrade button. Dammit.
Just verified, it does NOT give you the option to upgrade.
Edit: Kirimuffin ninja'd me
It's really a letdown, because I wanted the LtC sci from the T5 version. It's really baffling that Cryptic would change the boff layout of the T6 version so significantly. I guess all bets are off for future ships like this, huh?
Buy the Ranger. Then buy the Fleet Temporal Cruiser with EC by getting the modules from the exchange. Yes, that's expensive too, but can at least be done over time. I'm sure getting EC for 5 fleet modules takes less time than getting enough dil for 3000 Zen at the way the exchange rate went. It will only be for 1 character, but that's fine.

Because the Ranger has LtC sci, whereas the Paladin does not.

Oh, well; at least now we know.

Ah, well. I'll make like the Borg, and adapt.
