The great "Dilithium Exchange Rate" poll

With the dilithium exchange rate being where it is, what (if anything) do you think should be done about it?

I checked my history today, and it said I bought at 212 in October. This means the price has more than doubled since this time last year. Just wait. It will be at 500 by the end of the month.

The reason for this insane price is because people are buying Zen, and waiting for the Agent of Yesteryawn pack to be available in game. (It is currently only available directly on the STO website.)

Personally, I hope Cryptic does not make that pack available in game, which means everyone would have bought all that Zen for nothing. That will result in the market collapsing, and the price goes back to 200 per (which is where it was at this time last year). If that happened, I might start buying again.

No way am I buying now.

As for this poll, make kits upgradeable. By that, I mean make frames AND modules upgradeable. No way am I going to shell out millions for a single XII module.

I wouldn't assume that this situation is temporary, kdf and rom will still have a lack of ships to save up for, and feds have seen the most desired T6 ships already issued.

Also I doubt that players will develop their TOS era toon, to get to level 60 is, according to my google search about 4m XP, to complete the current specialisations its four times that again, and thats not counting the next spec tree. Whats the point getting a T6 ship for a toon you won't develop?

The rate of the exchange is controlled by US and only by refusing to pay the current rates. (Not an easy task to implement as it takes unity to do this) can we bring the rate down by not creating demand for Zen.
Cryptic have no responsibility to do anything about the current rates (if it truly is player controlled. I'm sure some manipulation of the exchange does go on by Zen being made available by Cryptic.) as the principle of it is that it's player generated and therefore does not fall into any criteria where they need to be involved. Should they get involved regarding a lockbox ship being sold for 500 mil EC when we think its real value is 100mil EC ?.

Coming back to what i said it takes the Zen buyers to stand up and say no i'm not trading my dil at these rates for the Zen sellers to lower their prices.

I wouldn't seeing items like respecs and name change tokens having a change of currency from Zen to Dil.

The reason for the increase is that dilithium has but one value now, to be used to buy Zen.
Most players have upgraded everything they want, most are in fleets that have completed all projects and are fully provisioned, most don't need to buy anything that cost dilithium in-game.
However nearly all players will have something in the c-store they fancy, be it upcoming ships, stuff they are saving for, respecs, doffs, costumes etc.
Basically, although dilithium is easy to come buy it has barely any value for most of us outside of exchanging it.
So the only realistic use for all that pink stuff most of us have is to buy zen with it and use it in the c-store.
Coupled to this, there's no point in buying zen just to convert to dilithium for the exact same reasons. Demand for zen is high but also nobody is willing to sell as there's no point.

Now if they were to put respecs or costumes or minor consumables like bank slots in the dilithium store i'd happily pour the pink crystals at it all day long!
Anyone grinding out dilithium could purchase respecs in-game direct without the exchange. That gives them a fixed price in dilithium, making them more popular as well. Easier access to respecs = more experimentation = better build diversity.
And anyone willing to buy zen with real money now has a reason to convert it as well.
I'd also add in i'd like to see other stuff like kit modules and admiralty cards added as well but my main concern is with how expensive it is just to change your build about a bit. Allowing better access to this will be better all round for the game.

Here's a thing that might work - 1m dil buys an extra console slot for one ship on one character.

Increase the fleet credit value of dilithium in fleet projects
I believe the dilithium to fleet project rate should be at least 10 creds for 1 dilithium. The current 1 to 1 is ridiculous! Doffs, and batteries, and junk you buy for EC's gives more credits and are MUCH easier to get than dilithium. I am in a VERY small fleet and we have projects that have been waiting on dilithium for months because the cost-benefit ratio is so poor. If I put 18000 dilithium into a project, I get barely enough fleet creds to buy two beam arrays. Yet I can craft a beam array and upgrade it for less.
If the reason the exchange is so high is because there is an excess of dilithium in the game, then logically there should be someplace else to spend dilithium. To me the best place would be fleet projects IF it was actually worth it. Perhaps a bonus token in the dilithium store.. for 5000 dilithium you get 25-1 fleet creds up to 100k when donating to fleet projects.
I would buy a lot of them. That's my two cents.

Don't mess with it. It'll pass. Just like a stock market, they have periods of being uber high and periods of being uber low. It'll pass. If we mess with it in any way, it'll distort the market and will put the prices even further out of whack.

    TL;DR
    Don't mess with it.

AoY will have some success; new characters will require upgrades, new rep equip will require upgrades, new lockbox weapons will require upgrades. If people will buy zen for those the market will go down slowly but surely.

Let's be fair here, the value of dilithium in game versus zen is rather ridiculous and inflated, considering the limits in dilithium sources and the amount of dilithium that can be produced in game (8000 a day is sort of ridiculous when comparing the massive amounts of dilithium needed to complete rep projects and fleet projects). Increasing the amount that can be produced in a day would greatly improve the dilithium issue, and putting caps on in Exchange values for items would also help.

Generally though, the zen market is overpriced anyway. There is very little value in buying the new ships which cost the most. We need to see a change in how ships are handled, in my opinion. This is the biggest issue in this game.
