Can we get environmental kits?

To my knowledge the "environmental kits", mentioned in one of the last developer updates about graphic tech upgrades, have been used by Cryptic since the game was first in development. If I'm not mistaken, they contain things like props, but also things like the modular room pieces used in things like the new 2409 ship interior sets.

Why can't we get use of these room parts? Shouldn't it be possible for them to be ported just like other props, or is there something otherwise special about them?

I know I've been wanting to be able to make ACTUAL custom interior sets for a long time now, instead of having to crudely cobble together vague approximations with whatever parts look the least bad compared to what the devs can do now. I've practically given up on the main mission I was trying to make because of how much of a headache it was setting up a Starfleet ship interior that way...

There was an odd hint about this in one of the dev blogs about the lighting revamp. one of the images actually showed those scattered around a giant room.

Yeah, I really hope that means they're hinting at doing it, but I doubt it.

What I'm mainly after are the pieces for making rooms and hallways, like the parts from the Origin interior kit they talked about making "extra modular" in a dev blog when they made it. The things they used to make all the starship and building interior maps, which could also go a long way for EXTERIOR maps, too.

Porting anything would take time, especially since they allocate NO official dev time to it and anyone who does it has to do it on off-hours, so I was hoping they could start with at least one of those sets and fill it out from there.

Yeah, these are definitely on my wishlist. Snap together rooms are something I've always wanted to see in the Foundry, I had no idea the devs were already had something similar for their environments.

Get these to us, please. They'd be such an improvement over how we have to work miracles with a couple walls in the style we want right now :)

Well, they did say there was some dev time allocated to the foundry later this year so we can only hope...

Actually, I believe they've been using "environmental kits" since Champions, or possibly earlier. Other game devs use that kind of thing too. Makes assembling locations easier.

Also, I'm fine with not getting the "snap together room" functionality from Neverwinter, if it actually means getting the environmental kit room and hall parts. I can deal with building with them using the current tools if it means having them at all. (Even if I'd like the snapto functionality.)

Yeah, I'd take them without snapping, definitely. But that's what we'd ideally get, something that would work well with the snap to grid functionality.

Actually simply setting them up to work with snap to grid would be all the snapping we need.

Yeah. I'm fine with just snap-to-angle and snap-to-grid, so long as we get all this stuff.

Also, should I have set this thread up with a "paging (devname)" in the title if I wanted a dev response?

Please don't. I see all. I just don't always reply.

    Sorry about that, Tacofangs.

No worries. A test kit is already part of my next batch (whenever that actually happens)

    Phew. Glad to hear that.

Wow. I wasn't expecting this, but really appreciate it! Thank you very much! o_o
Hopefully you'll get the go-ahead or time available to do it relatively soon, and that it won't be *too* painful a process.
