Race Change Tokens Seen—Any Devs Able to Comment?

Apparently, a few people saw TOS characters earn a “Race Change Token” after one of the early missions. I saw it mentioned here (http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1215698/playable-tos-character-options-beyond-founding-4/p1, see Protoneous’ post in the middle of page), but not discussed much. Apart from earning it, it doesn’t appear we can do anything with it now. In fact, I can’t see where it indicates my character got one, though I might have acquired it.

Any devs able to comment on Race Change Tokens? Any details we could be given?

It might mitigate the disappointment with those who want to create a TOS character who’s not one of the Founding Four. Considering that Geko has openly said that eventually TOS characters integrate into the 25th centaury, because all paths must lead to the main questline eventually, I’m wondering if once, TOS characters make that leap, we can use a race change token. After all, at that point, having a Trill or an aliengen character with horns and forehead ridges wouldn’t hurt the TOS aesthetic, anymore.

As some who was hoping to create an aliengen TOS Captain (with TOS-style beam out and all the accoutrements), but who understands that desire Crpytic has to embrace the TOS feel during the early TOS missions, I’m wondering if these tokens are a way to satisfy both needs.

Also, if there are “Race Change Tokens,” I’m guessing they wouldn’t be limited to TOS characters.

And, hey, there is precedent is Star Trek for total species change: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Identity_Crisis_(episode)

One possibility occurs to me.... The story has it that you live in the 25th century under a new identity. So changing race makes some sense.

Perhaps this is how they'll get around the lifer race thing. Go to the future, use a race change token to get "assimilated", and suddenly your a liberated borg drone!

It'd be awesome if they'd make it so you can play Fed or KDF Romulans, and then I could make my Fed "Romulan" alien an actual Romulan like I wanted her before the game even started

You know, I would LOVE race change tokens.

At the very least, we should be able to disguise our character's, changing one's appearance cosmetically/surgically is something that was done frequently in every show.

I haven't noticed that in my play-through of whats on Tribble, but I could very easily have missed it.

But I think that if such a thing exists its, as you said, likely to allow for TOS characters to alter their starting race from the base 4 feds options allowed at creation of a Agents of Yesterday captain to the much wider selection otherwise available in the game.

I recall talk a long while back about how CBS was against the race/sex change option being introduced, so if they've changed there mind it probably has some restrictions involved.

Meaning that it's going to be locked to the Agents of Yesterday/TOS toon created for this "expansion". That means that it probably won't be accessible to characters in the Klingon or Romulan factions (so let's all start preparing for the outrage that's going to fill the forums after the day that that blog post hits).

Or maybe it is, and maybe it's a token that can be traded to another character on your account (Although there wasn't a physical item placed in my inventory, so I doubt that's the case).

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

For what it's worth I am a lifer and it was just a quick system message that could easily have been missed (but has been confirmed by others).

Here's hoping it provides a pleasant surprise for all.

Neverwinter has race change tokens for awhile now and it is based on the same engine as STO. So if the STO devs want us to buy race change tokens, then they will make them.

I'd pay for a feature like this, waited so long to change my 1000hr+ character.
