Nice story. Except for this line:

"I guess we know how the Entity got off Earth in 1888."

After such a nice atmospheric yarn, it's a pity that the author didn't take the time to listen to the rest of the Star Trek episode she was referencing (specifically, the computer readout aboard the Enterprise about the other killings): The complete relevant computer quotations (in bold), taken verbatim from the episode, are as follows:

(Kirk asks for criminological files for cases of unsolved mass murders of women since Jack the Ripper).
    (Computer): "Working.
1932, Shanghai, China, Earth: seven women knifed to death.
1974, Kiev, U.S.S.R., Earth: five women knifed to death.
2105, Martian colony: eight women knifed to death.
2156, Heliopolis, Alpha Eridani II: ten women knifed to death.
    There are additional examples."

(Kirk then asks the computer to identify the proper names Kesla and Baratis).
    (Computer): "Working.
Kesla: name given to unidentified mass murderer of women on planet Deneb II.
Baratis: name given to unidentified mass murderer of women on planet Rigel IV. Additional data: murders on Rigel IV occurred one solar year ago."

So, according to the Federation's records, "Redjac" didn't leave Earth until sometime between 1974 and 2105. 1888 does not fall between those dates.

Otherwise, a very nice story. IMHO, this was one of the best story blogs they've done!

By the way, Jack the Ripper's real life last known victim, was indeed (as the author correctly stated) Mary Jane Kelly, and was the only victim killed indoors (in her flat in Miller's Court).

Interesting detail about those dates, they are all between 40 to 60 years apart, until getting to Kesla and Baratis, which are undated, however the Baratis killings are only 1 year earlier so either the cycle seems to have changed or like human serial killers Redjack had entered that phase where the need to kill becomes all consuming and the previous rituals/signatures/etc become less important than the kill itself.

Another thing I notice, 2156 is mid-22nd century, not sure how close that is to the MX-01 era, but it can't be more than a few decades either way.

Actually, 1974-2105 is a gap of 131 years, and there are NO ripper killings listed for the entire 21st century (so I guess we're safe from Piglet's rampage for a while). Then again, since we've already passed the last kill date on earth, maybe H. G. Wells (Dr. Soran) killed Jack the Ripper (Chancellor Gorkon) in 1979 (and kudos to anyone who gets that reference), in which case Mr. Hengist is a copycat!

"Time After Time" (1979) a really great film by Nick Meyer.

And my guess is that they just put Lt. Black back on earth after wiping his memory.

Your No Prize is on its way! Well done!

D'Oh, ok maybe the entity was on a different planet already by that point. Maybe it hopped onto that Vulcan wandering around on Earth since the 1950s but he had enough will to keep it contained, at least partially, maybe Gary Seven was able to chase it off world. Maybe, it left Earth and was on a Matriarchal planet where it killed Men for a change, like that world from early TNG. This might have muddied the data enough for the incident not to have showed up in Kirk's hurried data search.

Good possibilities! And you're right, a male bloodbath on Angel One would certainly not have been mentioned in answer to the question as Kirk phrased it. Plus, Gary Seven vs. Mr. Peterson in Dr. Robert Hartley's office in 1974 would have been epic.

another brilliant example of the relative dystopia the 29th century ends up as.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
