Concerning Lifetime accounts From PC's to Consoles

commphynixcommphynix Member Posts: 9 Arc User
Greetings STO community! (and hopefully any Devs listening in)

With the arrival of STO on Consoles I was hoping to find some answers as to how those of us with lifetime subscriptions would be affected. I suppose this could also be aimed at any of our accounts really, I want to know if when I play on console will we retain any zen purchases we have made enabling us to use our hard earned ships and other goodies. I can understand us not being able to use our current characters because of the technical issues. But if I was to create a new character on console to play with my console only friend, would I still have access to the zen store item purchases?. Surely it wouldn't be too hard to link our pc and console accounts.

Id also like to hear all you lovely peoples opinions!
What do you want to see happen on consoles regarding Purchases?

The way the Devs have stated it in a Reddit post is that there will not be cross platform play. Basically if you want to play on a console, you'll be starting from scratch.

Do *I* think accounts should cross over? Heck yeah, it'd be the only way I'd even touch a console version of the game. And even then, after seeing the UI they came up with for consoles, I'd only play on a console if I can use a keyboard/mouse combo.

So while I think it's nice Cryptic is looking for more ways to make money, and opening the game to consoles isn't necessarily a bad thing, this port is not going to get any real attention from me.

I will NOT repurchase all the ships/uniforms/races/LTS/character slots that I currently have. Not to mention all the exclusive event gated things.

I'm hoping the Zen we earn as lifetime will carry over to the console side. I think it shouldn't be difficult to link say your PSN/XBox account to the arc games account and carry the purchases over to the console side. Having access to the ships we have already unlocked or purchased would definitely be a plus to me! Yes, the devs have said your characters wont transfer across but there's no reason your zen store purchases shouldnt.

If they are separate servers, with separate pools of characters then you can bet your zeni are separate too.

The thing is (and this is pure speculation on my part) if it works like most other games, The consoles are not only seperate from PC, but from each other. So you are literally starting over if you move to a console. You can't take your old Arc Account and sign on to Playstation. You would have to make a whole new account for the Playstation version (and Xbox too obviously). So they can't really transfer anything over, because there is nothing to transfer.

Though again, I want to reiterate this is speculation on my part, so maybe Cryptic got it to work differently, but I doubt it.

They want to make MORE MONEY.

What makes you think that They are going to throw that opportunity away, by letting the present PC players port stuff over to a new system?

Yeah, since you would have to start a new account to play on console, nothing from your current (PC) account would carry over.

This move is more to get new people playing than it is to appease current players.

Other games was only allowed to do permanent transfers when they went through this.

once you go consoles there is no turning back. assuming cryptic allows it

True, I'm sure the cost to develop the ability to port over is/was greater than the perceived benefit of making a few bucks off a minimal(?) number of transfers. Cryptic is looking for more players, not how to give current players options to access STO. Blizzard didn't do it for Diablo 3 and they are bigger/better company than Cryptic.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
