How Poignant for James Doohan's son to be playing the role that made his father famous. And that's a very good likeness they've managed to create there.
Also, an interesting extra bit of info from this - OS campaign will include the movie years too - so will somehow span 2260s/70 - 2280s at least, - if only due to time travel, hopping from one period to the next.
Gosh, if Mr. Doohan were still with us he'd be 96 this year.
Wow, didn't it go by in a blink ?
I had the pleasure of seeing Mr Doohan in person MANY years ago at a Creation convention here in Boston. What a fantastic guy he was!
He entertained us with his many vocal talents imitating many different accents. His stories about his time creating the Trek we all loved. The audience hung adoringly on his every word.
Fun fact: James Doohan voiced about half the male characters in TAS.
It's pretty clear what Scotty is doing in the TOS era, but I can't wait to hear what Scotty's up to in 2410.
Is he still with the SCE? Did he work on the Odyssey?
Btw, why a 1:1 recreation of "old-Scotty" from TNG? I mean, people still do age, right?

Tell me you modelled him without one of his fingers, please tell me you got that in there. I know I got my hopes set high on this one. James Doohan got one of his fingers shot off in WWII, a lot of people don't know that unless they are real fans who have done some digging around, but it is true, the productions staff did a lot to hide it. Also, James Doohan is in great part responsible for the creation of Klingonese. That guy had a major impact on the Star Trek universe, both on screen and off.
I'm VERY impressed with the efforts you guys made to make him look accurate to James Doohan. If he were alive and healthy today, I think he would be very proud. And I cannot wait to see how his son captures the voice of his father's iconic Scottish Brogue.
Are you guys going to grandfather the new TOS Scotty into that Drozana mission? And will you be doing the same thing with Dr. McCoy?
I had the pleasure of meeting James Doohan several times, including on board a Star Trek cruise in 1987. As we were towed out of the harbor by tugboat, there was Mr. Doohan on the fantail of the ship, lecturing about tugboats! Apparently, they were a hobby of his, and he was extremely knowledgeable about them.
Later in the cruise, I even got to sing a Gilbert & Sullivan duet with him - and he had a wonderful singing voice!
He was a real gentleman, and is greatly missed.
About the likenesses posted in the blog...looking at them side-by-side with photographs, they seem very "off" to me. The Zbrush work looks great, but the head shape and skin tone don't match at all. The head and face look too narrow in both shots, and the complexion is very sallow and jaundiced compared to the ruddy complexion in the photos. Otherwise, great job!
As with a lot of people, Scotty was always my favorite character from TOS.... No offense Capt Kirk.
Glad the character will be around some more, sad that James isn't around still to voice it himself.
As for the likeness, the TOS one isnt bad, the movie Scotty reminds me more of John Cleese than James Doohan.

... All you have to do to learn that fact is read his bio available just about everywhere. You don't need to be a 'real' fan (whatever one of those is).
As to modelling his hand accurately. On the one hand (heh!) it would be accurate. On the other, he concealed it, so would he have wanted it to be accurate?

IIRC the idea was that it would not make sense in the future for their to be medical problems like that. Apparently the TOS production team was using the idea that Federation medicine should be able to cure things like that.
thus while James Doohan was missing a finger, the character he portrayed was not.
hey how about bringing back the original points spread in build instead of the new travesty of skill trees
Hey, how about posting that in the appropriate thread.

Reminds me a bit of John Cleese. Not, that I mind...
