Apparently The New AoY Ships Are Faction Neutral!

A dev replied to a member on Reddit with this information. here is the link for proof: https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/4i0k7w/agents_of_yesterday_album_of_new_ships/d2ujits?context=3

It means the ships are universal or not faction specific, so the ships can be used by all factions.

Just a shame it took a random dev to come out with that info, when really it would have been helpful in the pack blog.

    Because STOs devblogs chronically lack in substantial information. They could very well cut two paragraphs of "amazing" and "outstanding" ad text and instead go into some detail about the content they write about.​​

    Well considering that the lock box temporal dreadnought was also faction agnostic this isn't at all surprising. I don't think though that you can really heap any grief on cryptic for not posting this at once. Any KDF/ROM player knows that while they don't get as many ships as the FED they still get something during big releases (see. the last things to hit the c-store.)

    Even if you weren't guessing that the Eternal and Ouroboros were for everyone (interesting how this translates across c-store, 1 purchase, access for all factions?) you could have also speculated that Cryptic may have been planning to announce more ships at a later date (ex. a D7 revamp and 26th century analog) as for example they did with the Pathfinder on the lead up to Delta Rising.

    Neither takes a whole lot of imagination so jumping to the "Mrah, cryptic simply hates people who choose to play their other factions!" hassle is entirely on those who so jumped. Remember that this thing was just revealed and missing a few details now doesn't amount to much.

    Agnostic is a better way to refer to it. Neutral signifies that you have no partisan to any faction (under consideration). These most definitely are.

    "Agnostic" as an adjective doesn't even necessarily have a religious meaning at all. It can be applied to basically every "school of thought" in whatever context. President Obama for example once said his stance on tax politics (not sure if it was increase or decrease) was "agnostic".​​

    But that's only two out of eleven ships that were confirmed to be faction universal / non-faction specific / cross-faction (not going to take sides in this pointless discussion so I'll just mention them all :p ).

    What about the other ships? Some were said to be able to share skins with other ships, so I assume they're all the things mentioned above too?

    Well until it is all made official, we just have the words of one dev.

    I am hoping that all the T6 ships in the new pack will be faction universal, but we will have to see...

    The Temporal ships share skins. So the T2 Temporal Science Vessel Daedalus Class and the T6 Temporal Science Vessel Nautilus Class have interchangeable skins, the Gemini and Sagitarius, the Ranger and Paladin and so on. The cross-faction ships do not have a lower tier equivalent.​​

    Am I alone in thinking this seems a little... lazy?

    I can sort of understand the Paradox but this is a far cry from the old temporal ships.

These ships may be universal/agnostic/a-part-of-the-eventual-federation-but-if-you-track-what-that-means-for-2410-includes-three-separate-factions-but-without-strong-bias-towards-any-particular-one-,-putting-them-on-near-enough-equal-terms-with-the-KDF-ROM-FED, but does that mean "buy one c-store item, access for all" or does it mean "one c-store item for each faction."

    We can hope that cryptic is going to release T6 ships able to do triple duty but without confirmation (beyond doing the math on the pack) it's probably worth keeping the alternative(s) in mind.

    As discussed in another thread, Cryptic are more likely to create the illusion of one big single faction, and release more universal ships.
    Whether it is right or wrong, is up for debate, but I think this is where they are heading.

    Hey, it's a way to piggy-back more playable KDF/ROM content off of FED releases. It'll be interesting if they ever get to this point...
