I have used CSV and torp spread and it does a lot of damage but not enough. I find torp spread to damage multiple targets but use CRF to target and destroy a single ship.
Yeah, gravity well is a great ability. Not only does it pulls enemies together, it also does exotic damage, On top of that with the Control Amplification skill all enemies caught in the GW (or subject to a control ability) get a -35 damage resistance for 10 seconds. That's plenty of time to for CRF or CSV to cause plenty of damage and also launch torpedo spread.
Im thinking of doing a cannon build on a carrier (narcine) will have consoles to increase the turn rate, should I stick a torp in there too or just go all cannons and turrets? Im going to give disruptors a go so if I go torp, which one is best for the set bonus?

Torp spread is good but CSV I find to be TRIBBLE.
Have you used CSV after a gravity well? With core and singularity explosions filling the sky?
I like CRF too, but used properly CSV works well.
