DSE's and Escalation

Does anyone happen to know what happened to the escalations that sometimes appeared at the end of a deep space encounter? Did they turn them off?
It used to be that there was a chance on completion of a DSE, before you left red alert and could leave the map a message popped up from the faction you were fighting, saying they were calling in reinforcements. Next thing you know multiple flagships and battleships were flooding into the map. It was this delightful chaos as first you had break contact reorganize and adapt to the new threat.
They used to be fairly frequent, esp in the delta quadrant,The last one I saw was a few months ago in an "Assimilate the Barbarians" DSE haven't seen one since. Anyone happen to know what happened to them?
