Starship Engine Performance on Fleet Warp Core

sohtohsohtoh Member Posts: 620 Arc User
I was going through my bank and saw that I have a Fleet Warp Core with +17.5 to Starship Engine Performance. Now while the skill no longer exists, it still provides a moderate boost to Engine Power (and by extension Flight Speed), should it not have been converted for the Skill Revamp?

It probably should have received a conversion, although the conversion might end up (unintentionally?) lowering the value of the boost. I don't exactly know what the boost *should* be now, but I'm not getting a fleet core on Holodeck just to test it out!

Well, the boost is about an extra 1.xx Engine Power, but the Flight Speed is what is affected the most. There is nothing else equipped that would affect Engine Power or Skills trained or Traits slotted.

A common Mk XII Impulse Engine at 15 Engine Power without the the SEP Warp Core has an ingame speed of 12.53.
Same Impulse Engine with the SEP Warp Core is at 16 Engine Power, but the ingame speed jumps up to 17.69.

The Impulse Engine without the SEP Warp Core at 100 Engine Power has an ingame speed of 29.53.
Add on the SEP Warp Core, the Engine Power goes up to 101, and the ingame speed jumps to 43.19.

    That's a boost over 40%.

The Performance skills still exist under the hood. No need for translation to make them function. They'll still grant a small amount of bonus subsystem power.

Can the tooltip be altered to list the actual amount of bonus power it grants (Or does it already) ? Any reference to a skill that only exists "under the hood" will likely be confusing to players.

The tool still stated 17.5 Starship Engine Performance after transferring from Holodeck to Tribble, trying to figure the why and therefore for the extra speed, that appears beyond the bonus to Engine Power (and no I am not rounding anything, I am truncating the final result), and while at present the Engine Power increases appropriately in the math, the speed does not. There is small, but wide range of variables to go through. I hope to include it in the Starship Speed Calculator that I am working on. This is just the latest (and hopefully last) WTF data I am trying to figure out.
