So yeah, dont expect this to be a popular suggestion, and I guess it might have been suggested before, but google didnt show me anything, and it would be quite a substantial change in gameplay, but here is my suggestion/idea:
Aim with mouse in space battles (topic, duh).PROS
- Im thinking this would make the game more action-ish, dynamic, and perhaps not AS DPS oriented as it is today, holy TRIBBLE Im tired of all this DPS chasing. Misunderstand me correctly, better weapons would still matter, but wouldnt be the only thing determining the usefulness of your ship.
- Speed and manouvering would make a greater impact, and if you suspect a cloaked ship to be in a certain place, fire, and see if you were right (I think this could make pvp more interesting as well).
- You could still fire with [target]+[space], but lets say accuracy will be lower (im thinking this function could be kept incase you want to keep firing but look around your ship).
- AND with mouse aim you can acctually try to aim for a certain shield facing/weak point.
CONS
- I realise escorts would propably benefit from this greatly, but hey, why not buff the tankier ships then.
Im sure there are more cons.
If the devs would be curious about this, why not make a testmap where players could test this. And I realise it would demand more from the servers, like phasersbeams acctually needing to hit the correct position at the correct time in the maps grid, but maybe it could be worth it.
Yeah, very rough suggestion, but hell, it would make gameplay more interesting in my Im-too-old-to-be-humble opinion. And if people react well to it (if anyone reads it), I could totally take some time to write a more elaborate suggestion. Perhaps not in the nearest 3 weeks though. Work and life in the way for that.
If not, TRIBBLE it.
