Eh, I like Scott Bakula and I mostly liked Archer. He may not be as expressive as Patrick Stewart or (ahem!) William Shatner, but there's something inherently likable about him. He has an everyman appeal that none of the other Star Trek captains have got.
His voice is distinctive enough that we'd recognize him in a VO. That's all that matters, and it would be cool to see Archer in a STO time travel episode.
Want a expressive NX Captain, watch Star Trek Horizon. The Captain of Discovery (NX-04) certainly has a somewhat archer feel to him, also has his own style He gets annoyed with his crew stating what anyone could see, its awersome
... how... wha.... the man has 2 faces and speech tones how is he getting praise?? He couldn't act well in quantum leap and he's gotten worse since then....
I disagree. Quantum Leap occasionally required Sam Beckett to adopt the mannerisms of his host body and I think Bakula pulled those times off. It's a subtle performance that would appear more forced if some other actors tried it. Don't claim he's anywhere near the caliber of Patrick Stewart, but he's not that bad.
Yeah, even if i agreed that Bacula/Archer had "only two faces," Bacula in his other roles proves that this is less on him and more on the writers/directors of the show. Thing is, I disagree with the original claim, so...

ok Ive discussed it, and you're right he doesn't have two faces/voices he has 3. Neutral, angry and whiney.... whiney also serves for confused and concerned. This was true in Quantum Leap(which I watched when it was new) and its true in NCIS : New Orleans
He also did Men of a Certain Age , that lasted for a couple seasons '09-'11. Played a dope smoking never-made-the-big-time aging actor. He wasn't bad in it. Of course, the character didn't exactly require a lot of range.

I like d his demeanor. It made him seem like a man who thought things through and didn't just react.
