there was a time 4/5 players in a pug would say hi/bye/thx
now, more often than not, it's only 1/5 (and 4/5 times that's only me)
i don't use the channel's for a few reasons, 1 being that i actually want to play the end game, not zooom through it, like i'm using \dev_god_mode
i remember that.
often (providing they actually spoke the same language rather than a mix of germans french spanish english other) the stronger players would actually help the weaker ones.
now all you get are established players being complete f***ing w***rs to anyone not doing enough dps, if anyone communicates at all.
but thats a moot point now since most of the missions dont start due to lack of players.
I don't PUG often, so not seen the behavior there in a while.
But for all the flak the DPS community gets...the private queues there are always friendly and helpful in my experience.
Very friendly bunch.
Both on the Metals and Numbers side.
99% says GG, good work etc.
and 99% of the missions don't fail.
Star trek and star wars have been direct competitors on the market since the 70s and that wont change, so yes the comparison is valid.
as for the poll, i can not answer this because the answers have a bias. a simple yes, no or dont know would of been best, then let everyone explain themselves if they wish.
actually, from my memory of exchanges with you, pretty sure your answer is "Yes, but I don't feel it's an issue. The game is still fun for me.".
is this your way of getting a rise from my reaction by trolling and pretending to write on my behalf? moving on...
I will concede that perhaps there needed to be different/more answer choices. It's an honest question to which I wondered what others opinions were. It really wasn't my intention to skew anything or manipulate people's answers. I guess I hang my head in forum poll shameland and will try to do better next time haha.
what you do is your business, but from my own end i have seen polls degenerate because of how someone phrases their yes and no answers, the end result for others could potentially be very ugly dependant on point of view.

I'm going to say no. Elder Scrolls Online is a much better single player MMO. With that said, after a bit it made me want to play the much better games of the series instead, since you can do a lot more with the games than you can with ESO. Star Trek Online is better for getting a small group together and messing around with every so often, since you don't have to keep up with the current meta to plow through endgame content. And it has spaceships.
Yawn, this isn't new. They've been killing PvP since I started playing around S4 and tho it's affected how often many of us login and play it's a religiously advertised fact that PWE and Cryptic don't want it in STO.
Said it before and I'll say it again: there is no "greatest" game. There are a lot of games that a lot of different people like, for a lot of reasons. But insisting one of them is "the greatest" is not only closed minded, it is flame bait. We all obviously like STO, which is why we are here. That being the case, it's silly and pointless to "preach to the choir" about whether STO is a good game.
To be honest, STO is a bit of an odd-ball when it comes to MMORPG's. We have the typical story missions which you can play by yourself or with other players, we also have our five man "end game" STF's. The issue is, specifically for the story missions because you have an away team it sort of chucks out the window the notion that you might need to bring friends along to get past difficult enemies.
The think that made WoW so successful I think was that because there wasn't so much instancing (obvious instancing like we have in STO) and that there were random bosses in the wilderness that you couldn't take on alone it meant that socialising and teaming up with other players was a must. Everything bar the PvE queue STF missions can be solo'd in this game. We don't have any world bosses or scripted events like that. Constantly having your four NPC away team members doesn't help with this matter either.
Of course, it has to be said that PUGs are so infuriating in this game since no one hardly ever replies in chat or tries to actually coordinate their actions. With power-creep such as it is, you can just space bar yourself to victory with FAW. Even in WoW, which has some truly awful players at least they spoke to you in chat and tried to help out. I get the distinct feeling many people playing STF's have no idea what they're doing. Which is fine, but they never say "so, what do we have to do?".
Yet, here I am... after five and a half years of playing STO I still keep coming back for more lol.

no. i simply remember an exchange you where involved in, where an opinion was expressed to the effect of (im paraphrasing here) "i dont care about how something damages anyone else's experience, so long as i am having my fun".
if that wasnt a position you took, then, my apologies to you, for confusing you for the wretch whos opinion that does reflect.
i readily admit, for better or worse, i have gotten soo utterly enraged by the selfish, narcissistic, short-sightedness of some parasitic forumers that i ended up having a hard time keeping track of who i was actually responding to.
people whos only interest was in their own aggrandisement and indulgence, to the point that they didnt care if something overtly damaged the game as a whole. as long as they still got to roleplay as captain p'lr'one herosun.
my position has been the same for a number of years now, i only play the game to waste time, what fun was in the game was sucked out a while ago, that is assuming there was any to begin with, especially with stahl and his crazy ideas and unmet engineering reports with ideas of the future.
as for the rest, the reason i dont care is because i have an opinion and i choose use it, and on top of that whatever reactions people have is their own business, what they think and do is their own business. the only thing you can do is learn how to react in the correct fashion and there wont be a problem, same on my end. it is the same for me as well, what i do is my business.
all of us here are random faceless keyboard warriors, its the way it is.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.

All too often I try to team with someone to do some Episode stuff only to find it won't let us do it together. I spend most of my time talking to folks who are doing their own thing...I'd say unless there is a PuGged STF (or a rare friends/fleetmates one) most of my time is spent DOffing/Admirality or just chatting trying to get folks to do something. Ground is almost 99% OUT of chances as most folks I know abhor it. With the Space stuff - well...there are maybe 5 or 6 things that will be attempted - most of them on Normal or Advanced. Elite, for the most part, is *right out* as most of us don't have the 'called for DPS' to do them.
It's saddening to me - I *WANT* to play, but I want to be able to do more with others.
As far as "teamwork" as mentioned by some posts above...well, I see very little call for that, though I have been told there are a couple of Elite where teamwork is a must. Since these Elites are not a place I've seen I don't see much teamwork, unless you count being on a team where 1 or 2 people yell (yes, all caps is yelling) about 'idiots not knowing what they are doing' without explaining what to do/why while most others run around doing whatever they "think" is supposed to be done.
Team work in PUGs is lolwut.... but a good premade is a lot better.
I wonder if there is any way to fix that fact. I enjoy grouping with people I am voxing with, but generally don't even hook up my mic anymore. Turns out that there are a LOT of folks out there not worth talking to in random PUGs.
I got to listen to a Female Captain breaking stones orally near her mic last week....that or the "potato chips from hell."
The kids who sound like they are mainlining helium, people who hiss the F-bomb like Gregorian Chanting Monks...

ah good times, good times.
Yeah, I typically don't use voice chat. I was thinking more of basic coordination, like LMR and stuff like that.
Teamwork being optional is a very good thing. Sometimes people don't feel like dealing with other players. Sometimes people feel like soloing a bit. STO is excellent in how it allows people to team when they feel like it and only when they feel like it.
it isn't "Fun" to be forced to do things you don't feel like doing.
Where do people keep finding the "always teaming forever teaming and only teaming" in Massively Multiplayer Online?
I have no friggin clue.

I play STO mostly for myself.
Tried to be more social before, but since 90% of all fleets are USA-Time based, that was just very hard... and those in Europe often only speaks German.
I'm for one don't miss the "raid" system like every other MMO has.
For that is what brings MMOs as a multiplayer.
You mostly quest your way up to max level by yourself and then do a instance now and again. But when you reach max level, then comes the multiplayer part of organizing groups and enter raids to get the best gear in the game and put down bosses. Without that multiplayer aspect, you will never have the best gear, if we look at other MMO standard concept.
The progression to get the best gear in STO is to spend much time and get it for yourself.
I am totally fine with this, no pressure to fill in the requirements to be online specific times and have the best item level or kneel to other peoples need.
I play STO because it is fun and relaxing, and I should not be punished for not beeing a Hardcore gamer.
Sure, it has its limitation, As a single player, I don't do Elite queues, cause I don't believe it can be done with bad communication in a pug, but Advanced on the other hand is no problem.
And STO has only reached the level-cap twice (45-50 50-60) in six years, people will have much to say about that but for me thats awesome. That dosen't mean that my gear that I worked so hard on to get will be worthless in six months.
The singleplayer aspect of the game is decided by you, the multiplayer aspect of the game is decided by you.
Want to be alone and play? Fine do it.
Want to be togheter and play? Sure, join a fleet and take the first step to socalize and do fleet-queues, don't expect that it will come to you on a silver plate by just logging in.

My two cents.
Agreed, if I wanted to play a game to do raids and deal with other people 100% of the time I would just not play games and get a job as an exterminator.

I have to say that what attracted me to STO is the single player aspect of the game back in early 2014. I somehow stumbled onto a video about STO showing ships warping in and out of Earth's orbit and later I saw some single player missions. It kinda reminded me of Star Fleet Command which I liked playing back in 2000.
STO is the only MMO I play. I am not really into multiplayer aspect of the game other than running the queued missions. I have gotten a few PMs / e-mails asking me if I would be interested in joining a fleet, especially when I am playing my Fed aligned Romulan Sci captain. Those people seemed to really like the bio I wrote for that toon. But for the moment I prefer to play as a lone wolf.
I wrote bios for all 4 of my captains back in 2014 using Word. But sadly, I was only able to transfer two of those bios (meaning I typed them in) into STO; Rom Sci and KDF Tac captains; because my hard drive died and I lost all my data.
If and when I get the burning desire to acquire fleet gear and upgrade my ships to fleet ships, then I will be on the hunt for two good fleets (Fed / KDF).

This game has always been Single Player MMO. How is it you're just now realizing this?
This is the way WE WANT IT. If it were not so, then the game would be a lot different than it is now. Why? MONEY.
It's always about the money, no matter what issue you're dealing with. If ppl weren't paying up...do I need to keep saying this?
One Ship. One Captain. Star Trek.
