On the contrary its you people trying to mold the game to be what you want.
STO was "never" a game about sticking sci captains in science ships, engineers in cruisers, tactical in escorts. And never has any attempt been made to shoehorn players into specific playstyles for specific ships.
As the Vulcans say: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.
I sorry but I have to ask. why do the biggest racist short of borg, undine and other actively genocidal races, have a idea like that? that has always confused me.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Apes. You forgot Apes. "Get your paws off me, you damn dirty human!"
And of course for everything Vulcan, the response will be "it's only logical".
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.
Being critical doesn't take skill. Being constructively critical- which is providing alternative solutions or suggestions to a demonstrated problem, however, does.

but this isn't about ships.
a sci could still fly in a non sci ship there skills and how well these abilities work are in question.
Bedsides they cant attempt to force players into class ships or the kling and rommie sci captains would be screwed.

Respecs have never been free. Multiple skill trees or builds were never an option. The skill tree is one of the last things that requires people to think ahead, make decisions and consider different options. Let's keep it that way, as it has been for a while now.
False
Free respecs existed before STO went F2P.

Sure they existed - but they were never "free", you still had to EARN them by leveling your officer or buying with Zen.
That's not "free".
It's not you- it's me. I just need my space.

I don't really get why people mix this issue up with player classes. The skill tree is the same for everyone.
And anyway, everyone knows tacticals are the best at space (in any ship type), engineers at ground and science at complaining about how bad it is at everything. This isn't going to affect that.
Personally, I think selling respecs is pointless. Game's too easy, not worth paying for respec. All my toons got whatever skills they got while leveling up and once they hit 50 the entire skill point system may as well not even exist anymore as far as I'm concerned. Only times I've ever respecced is when the game gave me the "invalid skill reset" -error. And once the revamp goes live, I'm gonna just put something up seat of my pants and forget about the system again.
Free respecs would get people to engage with the system more.
I don't mind you being "forced" to specialise. That's ok with me, cos that's how life is. You can't be great at *everything*. If you learn to do something specific, it's a career path. Like a Tactical Escort pilot. Or Engineering Carrier pilot. Or Science cruiser pilot. Sure, your training means you can fly other stuff, and possibly be great at it. But not as great as you are doing your chosen career. This is how it should be. Too many people choose Tac, for example, then want to basically turn it into a science or engi char. Erm no, you're tac, you go pew-pew and leave the science to me
I'd go further than that, and make each faction have specific careers too, but thats maybe going to far hehe
LUKARI GUERILLA GARDENING MILITIA - Glowing fingers are Growing fingers!

I consider anything that does not require any kind of real or game economic investment to be "free".
In the case of respecs you were rewarded merits for playing any and all the game content which was a specialized currency that existed for the explicit purpose of character progression and customization and nothing else.
Which honestly is something that should never have been removed in the first place.
