I don't understand in character why you don't think Starfleet is or at least was building more Arbiter Battlecruisers then Odysseys. I didn't read anywhere that said they are building fewer Arbiters then Odysseys and other capital ships.

Plus the purpose of the Capital Ships are different from the the Arbiter.

The Command Battlecruisers job are to lead/support groups of other smaller Battlecruisers, Cruisers, Fighters, and Escorts in battle.

The Odyssey, and Andromeda Cruisers job is to be versitile, they can support fleets in battle, mine a plant for resources, conduct complex diplomatic engagements, evacute large groups from disasters, scientific research, and long term exploration. They're better for ACTUAL rebuilding then the Arbiter, which is likely okay at it, but better at defence of the federation.

The Odyssey is also a symbol of prestige, same with the T6 Bort & Scimitar.

The Jupiter is a whole different beast, almost a mobile space station, like DS9 with warp engines.

Useful in war by bringing extra fighters and light escorts to a fight, and for strong science/intellience abilities, and as a repair and support station for its fighters/escorts, in peace its basically a mobile space station capable of carrying and maintaining a small fleet of sorts. Like I said I think of it as a mobile DS9, with fewer weapon slots.

Escorts and Science ships are a whole other discussion.

I think Lordgyor above me hit the nail on the head. The battlecruiser is just that, a fast capable warship specialised into one role - to fight. Now while they would have been indispensable during the Iconian War, Starfleet is trying to turn towards its natural roles of exploration, scientific study and defence. They are big, versatile platforms for projecting power and can be deployed quickly due to their ability to stay in slipstream for longer periods. Not just that, but the hulls themselves were mostly intact and pulled from damaged or presently under-construction ships so I wouldn't say it's that big a waste of resources. I'm sure if this was a real life sort of thing once you had a sizeable pool of capital class ships you would boost production of smaller ships to even out the fleet composition - but this isn't real life. It's fantasy and thus it doesn't have to follow any real sense.

They'd be likely pumping out the Arbiters and escorts as well at the same time. The federation is a big place.

So maybe the Jupiter is being built at the Caitian Shipyards, and the Arbiter on Bajor, and the HEC by the Tellarities, and the Pathfinder and Dauntless by the Vulcans, and some of the fed ships have been contracted out to the Ferengi and other races, the Risians are building their own unique ship types, etc...

I think it would be cool for STO to create one these type magazines to go with all their ships, it'd boost sales by boosting immersion.

This magazine cover ships of the Federation Allies, like KDF and Republic, or Lockbox Ships since Fed Captains command those ships too.

I agree it would be cool. However, this was something made by Thomas in his spare time, not an official ad. That being the case, they would have to pay someone to do this for every ship. And I have a feeling Thomas probably put quite a bit of time into this, so it might not be cost effective.
