I'm stuck. I've levelled up to lvl. 52, doing patrols and doff assignments, regular missions and started doing reputation fights too. I just like doing random stuff inbetween the regular story. And now I can't complete a mission anymore. It's the "Flying Blind" one of "Operation Gamma". It's a shuttle mission, where you fly around DS9 to take out sensor clusters, and kill the "worker bee" drones that fix those, and defeat the waves of fighters.
I understand that PvE is levelled up to the level of the player, but in this mission, this is WAY too much. I've now clocked 9 hours of trying this single mission, over three days, and I'm ready to give up.
Now.... before you write this off as user error or bad gameplay; here's my reasoning:
1. I understand the upgrade system:
I've put some nice consoles, warp core, shields on the shuttle ("Danube Runabout") all lvl XI or XII uncommon or rare, power levels, batteries, turrets, optimized doffs, everything. Oh and I tried it first using the original weapons the shuttle comes with. I'm using a normal lvl. XII omni-directional plasma turret with a console enhancing it. That's the only really different system. But phaser or plasma.. not much difference in DPS (plasma has a little more). I tried a better torpedo, the lvl. XI Harg'Pheng from the "doomsday machine" mission. That thing normally wrecks anything it hits. Now it just dents them a little... So it's not my shuttle.
2. I've compared it to another player:
I checked youtube where this guy Brent Justice (lvl.48) show this mission, in a tactical character (I'm science).
Here's the video:
https://youtu.be/szI-5ZLlEhY?t=13m56s
As you can see, the worker drones and fighters blow up after he's hitting them 3 times and one torpedo. I have to hit them 6 times plus a torpedo at least. They have much more HP and reset much, much faster. He even has time to check his Boff stations in the middle of the fight. :-O
There's waves of 1 worker bee, then two, and then three (total 6). At the third wave of worker bees, I manage to kill 2 but the third one is already resetting the thing, when I turn towards it. Also, I get 4 Jem'hadar fighters at the last wave, instead of 3 in the youtube, but that's where my turret and photonic fleet help distracting the fighters. The problem is the "worker bees".
So that is why I have the impression I've levelled up just too far (vice admiral) to complete it, compared to a lvl. 48 character and the PvE doesn't allow me to win, using uncommon or rare XI and XII weapons at lvl. 52.
3. I understand the mechanic of this map:
I heal between waves, let the cooldowns expire. So each wave I start fresh. This takes time but otherwise I don't even make it to the third wave. (unlike in the youtube where the guy is just doing it in one run using a standard issue shield, unlike my resiliant lvl. XII rare shield) Rushing to take out the sensor points (mission objective) doesn't work, you have to kill all worker bees and fighters. Because even if you take the sensor points out, after the fact, the worker bees keep resetting, and then you're too late. So... you have to disable the sensors, ignore the fighters and kill the worker bees first. Which I tried.
4. This one is different. I have none of these problems in the other missions or patrols, space or ground. Sure they increase in difficulty, some are hard, but I can manage, and got better at playing each time.
I'm not the best player at all, but even if I make no mistakes (had a few perfect runs), It's just impossible.
Concluding: Try it yourself. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETE at lvl. 52 in a reasonable built "Danube Runabout".
Skipping a mission is not my style. Frustrated. Ready to quit. :-/
Do I have to delete this character, and play the whole thing again, to be able to complete the storyline, just because I did some extra patrols and doff assignments inbetween? I'd lose all my effort in building my character and crew, I'd have to spend money to get an account bank etc.
That would be ridiculous.
I've submitted a ticket at support, but I doubt they'd change the PvE setting just for those players like me, even when it's broken...
Please help?

Turrets do low damage (unless you mean omnibeam ?) and the HP torp's bad against fighters, just pulled the gear off my ship to outfit a runabout for it with a boff with torp spread to buff my Photons and a normal Phaser beam array. The worker bees should be going down in a couple of shots, little more for the fighters, as with that video.
Maybe try teaming with someone(s) if you can't get past it ?
This narrows the problem down. So it is of some help.
I target the worker bees and take them out one by one, ignoring the fighters, until the bees are dead in the final round. Then I deal with the fighters. So far that got me the furthest.
I just flew three more missions there. I did everything right, but it is IMPOSSIBLE to do enough damage to all three worker bees before they reset. I hit the first two of the final wave (3) with a torpedo and at least 8 direct shots possibly more. Yes, I do hit them. At the weak spot when their shields go down. I make small circles in front of them, so I not go out of range, and keep the powerlevel up, and when my torp is loaded, I can fire rightaway. Weapons on powerlevel 100. I tried a tactical Boff (tactical team), engineer Boff and now a science one.
As said the fighters are not the issue, I can take those on easy.
The problem is the worker bees do NOT die with a few shots. The fighters go down faster.
When I've hit the last (3rd) worker bee twice, it's shields are still up and it's finished it's reset.
And then I'm back to sensor alpha.
Happens every time, same sequence of events.
So, that is different, from your experience. But it's not the level then.
Yeah an omni beam. Regular, level XII plasma. supported by a console.
Maybe it's because I switched to plasma, instead of phaser?
But my torpedoes also do quite limited damage to the worker bees.
And the DPS on the plasma beam is higher in numbers. I have a nice console and could get the plasma omni cheap.
So that's why I chucked the phaser one out.
Something is wrong.
I have tinkered with a couple different shuttle builds but I think I like them best with torps. Particle emission torp and neutronic or gravimetric work well, if you have them. If you have the omega rep skill "omega kinetic shearing" you can boost the damage a little. the secondary effects of these torps should eat up a bunch of hull.
Alternately, you could run a beam/torp split with beam overload. BO should drop the shields and the torp should get right in. This is of course a rinse and repeat kind of thing. A DBB and a torp work well here since shuttles turn quickly.
I do wonder about a couple of things. Is the difficulty set to advanced or elite in the mission window? That would make it more difficult in terms of enemy HP. And, I have to ask even though you seem to have a decent grasp on the game, do you have skill points in the space weapon skills? The main reason I ask this is because I once forgot to spend any skill points up to level 40 and started having a hard time.
exactly the same with a phaser & console.
the 3rd sequence (starting with "delta") is just impossible. I manage to kill two worker bees, and shoot the third one twice before it resets the whole sequence again. they take much more shots than the fighters....
hey thanks for the reply.
yeah I'll train her for torp spread. as soon as I am at earth dock.
I've got it at "advanced" from tier 5 or so ;-) otherwise it's no challenge.
never had issues. got a nice ship and a few tricks and combinations as well. did a LOT of patrols, fighting those romulan battle cruisers.
I did make two beginner mistakes in the skill tree. but I got those space weapons maxed out.
yeah it's a nice set, that is the reward for this: two pieces of the Dominion space set.
I have to do it 2x more: for the deflector dish and a polaron turret. I'll put that on my shuttle, it's perfect for it.
the drones turn up after odd numbered sensors are done, 1,3,5.

yeah it can be done. but it's more luck than skill in my case.
