Speculation: New Foundry feature coming 'soon'.

So, the latest Priority One podcast interview (arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline/#/discussion/1210692/podcast-priority-one-podcast-255-the-state-of-play) included a little nugget of gold for the Foundry - - Zero confirmed that a little dev time has actually been set aside to add a 'new feature' to the Foundry 'soon' (stated at the 33:55 mark).

What could it be?

My greatest hope is a new search UI (see sig below)... as this is the most desperately needed item in the Foundry right now.

I don't think it will be a big feature. I'm hoping they restore Timid Creature to what it used to be. The uses for an NPC that doesn't fight back are endless.

Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Might be a way of grouping episodes in series together (small but useful feature for a lot of authors).

Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!

    I'm thinking this ^^^

Play X mission to unlock Y mission.

But anything is good really... so either way. +1

Hooray for new features! Me, I'm hoping for expanded trigger functionality.

@psycoticvulcan : IIRC they got rid of that because people were using it to make grinders with battleships that just sat there and let you beat on them. I don't see it coming back.

I'm hoping for "Next 50" / "Previous 50" or "More" button in the UI. What's the point of making more missions if people can't access them through a regular search...

    Precisely my point.

They can add all sorts of cool stuff to the Foundry...but what good does it do if the vast majority of players only ever see the now set-in-stone top 50 list? (though series grouping will help a bit here)

yeah, that was interesting.... no idea what it is, since her response was largely unrelated to the question(which was about Foundry PVP maps).

I don't give a hoot about the grinders, personally. I don't think stopping them is worth compromising what legitimate authors can do in their missions. Just slap them in a different category from the "real" Foundry missions and prevent them from appearing in the Top 3 system. Boom, everyone's happy.

EDIT: Maybe set it so mobs set to Timid Creatures will not fight back, but don't reward loot upon destruction.

This was requested at the time, and the response was that loot tables are controlled at the game-wide level and can't be customized on a per-group basis. I imagine that's why Jem'Hadar love carrying around banana splits.

As to what it might be. Revamped Foundry search is a possibility as I know they've been considering a general revamp of the mission journal for a while now. Could also be something completely different.

Not being a programmer myself, this seems like an easy fix. No need to mess with game-wide loot tables, simply make the 'timid' tag include a loot blocking piece of code. That way only the 'timid' tag needs a little work (I.e. IF TAGGED "TIMID"; LOOT=0 or somesuch) But again, I'm not a programmer so doing something like this might result in ALL loot=0 and a general riot on the forums. :p

As a fellow non-programmer, I find it usually more accurate to assume that nothing is an easy fix.

Actually I think they'd have to make a new unit type that doesn't drop loot for it. then we can reskin them as whatever.

It occurs to me that an update of the Foundry search UI would go hand-in-hand with campaign support - it wouldn't make sense to do one of them now and the other later, since doing one would affect how the other is implemented.

The return of costume import? I can dream can't I? The foundry still crashes 99% of the time on exit for me so costume import really didn't make it that much less stable.

I wonder if they are going to fix the interface. I see that the mission, "Investigate Officer Reports", is gone now.

The Foundry's down again (at least for me, as I'm writing this). Begin rampant speculation phase 2!

There was a brief downtime earlier today, much like with the patch last week. I believe it to be something to do with reducing the lag we get during the anniversary event.

As for Investigate Officer Reports, I have brought it to the attention of Cryptic's QA via twitter. They are looking into it, but no fix was in today's patch notes. I can't say for 100% certain at this point whether it was a bug or a decision to remove it.

wait...when did they remove timid creature?
  • drogyn1701drogyn1701 Member Posts: 3,606 Media Corps
It wasn't removed, it was just changed from its original state. Originally if you set a mob to timid creature, it would never attack you (or anyone else) no matter what. People were exploiting that for easy grinders, so they changed it so that timid creature mobs will not attack until they are attacked first.

Also, got some news on this. Per Zero, the Foundry time that was scheduled was moved back. It's still on the schedule, just later. She couldn't say what the feature was, only that it is a player-requested feature, and it isn't something like the 3D nudger from Neverwinter. That one is just too crazy-complex to port back over.

In the meantime, they continue to work on objects. She mentioned a version of the new Dyson-style door that opens!

Cool. Now if we could just get the Dyson ground battlezone map. ;)

Oh, and now that we have an official look to President Okeg, he would be cool to add as an asset...well, after Quinn, and T'nae, and... :p
