Good idea. It's part of Star Trek and Sci-fi in general and there are some unanswered questions remaining. As long as they can limit the amount of paradoxes we'll likely be creating and keep the storyline consistent, it can be very interesting. After that, I'd like to see some exploration in our own timeline.
I do hope that they won't make our characters the centre of everything. Sure, the player character should play some role during the conference, but ultimately it shouldn't be about our characters being the great hero again.
I hated the Temporal arc in ENT. In TNG it was stated that the Federation had only charted 11% of the galaxy, and only a tiny fraction of that had been explored. And they are saying we are now ready to explore time? We haven't even explored a fraction of our galaxy. The Federation has rules against time travel, the only reason why they were ignored in the end of the Iconian war is because the Federation was desperate and nearing defeat. And now those rules are being thrown out the window entirely. This entire new arc is a joke.
I've often wondered if the reason for the occasional lag and rubberbanding I sometimes get at places like ESD isn't due to someone messing with the timeline.
Seriously, though, while I do think that the whole timetravel arc has been done to death in more sci-fi than I care to think about, all I really care about is whether or not STO gives us an interesting storyline regardless of the theme it revolves around.

We may only know 11% of the galaxy but that doesn't mean that exploring everything up to that final percent is going to make for good, entertaining fiction. That's why DS9 and Voy jumped to other quadrants before the local neighborhood was completely flushed out. It's possible that they could have based more shows on internal Federation matters or more local exploration (just as its possible for STO to do the same now), but more mileage was available through different settings.

Bad, bad, very very bad idea. Why are we wasting time on the temporal snoozers? It would be much preferable if they ended the Future Proof arc and got to writing some good missions?
I say bad idea. I kinda like time travel shows, but too much is just bad. To me there is lot more yet to explore on the game. More of New Romulus, more sectors, Gamma Quadrant to open up. There is a lot there to go by. So I rather them do something original and go into those places. The Iconians part was original, loved it, but they did horrible to make it a war. Sela mentioned a gate that no human ever been to. Why not head there.
I really don't like the idea of the entire story arc based on time stuff. When there is much more new things to see.

I think the Iconian war part was just trying to tie in all the lose ends. TNG did start the Iconian arc which also introduced the idea that they were hostile, and then the destruction of Romulus and other events never tied in together, but introducing the Iconian war and finishing the arc pulled it all together.

Yes and they did well on pulling all that in together. The story was good, didn't have issues with that. With the exception of a couple missions. Which was just horrible. However they failed to making feel like an war.

I definitely agree about it not feeling like a war. This "big" and "epic" conclusion to a massive story arc carried from TNG was nothing but a few episodes and a couple of PVEs. THere are so many small details that they could have added to make it feel like a war, but instead the season felt rushed. We should have gotten many more missions, pves, and the season should've been much longer maybe a year or two instead of a few months.
Yeah, the Temporal Cold War idea is ONLY from Enterprise. Don't believe that retcon nonsense.
And, while it's a potentially intriguing idea, it was very poorly executed in canon. That puts Cryptic on thin ice, already (not their fault, but still could blow up in their faces). The ending of "Butterfly" was rushed, and poorly thought-out, and there are far too many question marks left from that story (bad, "this makes no sense"-type questions)... no, thanks.

It feels bigger when you consider everything that has happened since the beginning of STO's storyline:
-Hakeev willingly submits himself to be a willing pawn to the Iconians and they blow up Romulus because of the events that play out in "Midnight"
-Iconians manipulate the Undine into being their pawns without the Undine knowing what's going on.
-Hakeev & the Tal Shiar are given the use of the Elachi to deal with the dissident Romulans under D'tan's leadership.
-Hakeev is defeated by the player character captain, Iconians capture Sela.
-After jumpstarting the Iconian gateway on New Romulus, the Iconians become aware that we have tapped into one of their ancient spheres and do what they can to force us and out.
-After shutting down the Solanae jump engines, we gain access to the Jenolan sphere. M'Tara comes to us in person while celebrating the successful defeat of the Undine from destroying Qo'noS and she warns us not to attract their attention further.
-After venturing to the Delta Quadrant to reunite with old friends, We learn that the Iconians were behind the Vaadwaur's quick rise to power and we manage to find Sela who has been a prisoner of the Iconians all this time.
-Sela helps us discover the Herald Sphere and the Iconians decide they've had enough, sparking the biggest conflict the galaxy has seen.
-With the help of the Krenim & Sela, we discover the reasons why the Iconians have sought out to destroy us. While we make peace with L'Miren, T'Ket wishes not to have any peace at all. We decide to leave the Iconians alone until they're ready to interact with us on better terms.
Add all of this in and you have something that feels like a true conflict, almost like a cold war at the start.

Temporal Cold War, whether or not you want to believe it, is a part of Trek.
Going on topic here, I think it was merely inevitable that we were going to be heading towards the Temporal Cold War when you consider we've time-traveled a couple of times already prior to the Temporal Cold War. First was when we (as Feds) used the Guardian of Forever to pursue B'vat after he kidnaps Miral Paris. The 2nd time was traveling back and forth between the 23rd and our present century to stop the Devidians from hurting time anymore. Plus, if your character is a Delta Recruit, there's the whole time travel aspect where the player character is pulled into discovering new secrets about the Iconians and everything they've done up through the Breen arc.
Where are we going to go? Since these events were put forth by the likes of Voyager and Enterprise...
We know there were operatives throughout time...and we know the sphere builders will be coming...sure they could delay this stuff I suppose, but maybe they aren't sure where else to go with STO.

Therefore i like season 4 of ENT to much , because they ended with that time nonsence and they began to pay more attention to the species.
You don't take the two worst plot devices combine them together, and think your going to come up a winner

All that did was to show how the Iconians was just trying to get others to do their destruction. However the final act was it didn't feel like a war, specially how the Stories of Fiasco War put it. That is the complaint. It never really felt like a war at the final act.
Anyway, back on topic. We went back in time to change some things, or to stop someone else trying to. However for a real Temporal War, you need a enemy who keeps changing time for what ever their reason. Just a few incursions don't make it an war.

Would be interesting to see the Suliban cabal, they certainly had some interesting abilities
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavours, to crush utterly his achievement and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."

What I love is that 29th Century Starfleet seems to patrol all time, not just up until the 29th century. It responded to a 31st century vessel's distress call and obviously is there to stay as the guardian of causality.
While I'll wait and see how it plays out I'm not super optimistic about it. Time travel stories need a lot of thought put into them to avoid dumb stuff we've all seen a hundred times in all those bad examples. And if the base material already is filled with dumbness and plot holes the size of dyson spheres it's not gonna help either. I really would like to see this play out well but I doubt it.
I always thought the Krenim should have been a new enemy, attacking the other factions with torpedoes that could tear right through us, using their weapon ship and leaving the 29th century to break the rules to help us survive...
We'd get, temporal shielding etc and a weapon ship hourly battle and new episodes.
I'm really disappointed at what they did with the actual weapon ship though...using it to open a temporal vortex, like the Enterprise-E was able to do with its regular deflector? It was such a waste.

I think it’s a good idea and a fresh new start after the iconian arc. I also liked the show references to TNG and ENT they made in the latest FE and hope we see some more of that.
Thumbs up from me.
