Elite Stingers vs Elite Scorpions

Hi,

I've made tests into hangar pets and came to conclusion Drones are by far the best frigates, and scorpions highest dps fighters (although embassy swarmers were close second), of course both elites. That said, that was couple of months ago, and since I don't have Recluse, I didn't really ever test mesh weavers (of whom I heard great things), nor did I test stingers.

Now I'm wondering how do the elite stingers perform versus elite scorpions. They have torps and eptw, which should help with the damage. Since I don't have them yet I was looking forward to someone chiming in that have both and telling me how they can perform against each other and are they worth getting.

Moreover how useful are they against single targets? Do they survive at least a bit longer then Scorpions?

Cheers.

I have stingers on my KDF and scorpions on my RR toon :) Both are good. But fighter pets are nothing what can win the game.

    It depends.

The Elite Scorpions do better in most situations but when you start getting into content with NPCs that have AOE attacks, those destructible Plasma HYT attacks lose a lot of usefulness.

The Elite Nausicaan Stinger Fighters alone are quite average. But their attacks are not negated by AOE within the same galaxy as the Elite Scorps' Plasma HYTs are.

Both will of course do better if you have the HEC/Heavy Escort Carrier trait (Coordinated Assault) running but that mandates a Cannon+CRF build onto your ship. Both hangar units have no beams to make use of the other half of that same trait that would utilize the BO aspect. Regardless, both are Single Target only hangar units.

Side note: If you have a CRF+BO build going, the HEC trait will be very nice for a certain few hangar units on single target applications. Namely the ones that have both Cannon & Beam weaponry installed. The Adv/Elite Jem'Hadar Fighters for example have both beams and cannons and are nimble enough to capably use them. They also have no Canon or Beam abilities, so if your Carrier is running CRF+BO, they'll benefit quite nicely.

In most cases, scorpions are better, but I find Elite Stingers one of the better hangar pets. Scorpions have the advantage of their torpedos finding a different target if their initial target is destroyed which can mean a lot of torpedoes flying at once. The disadvantage is the torpedoes move slow and they can be shot down with AoE. Elite Stingers have a cannon, beam turret, and a photon torpedo with HY. I like them a lot on my T6 kolasi siege destroyer since I use BO and CRF with the Coordinated Assault trait. They also have the advantage of using disruptors which, last I checked, stack with a player's disruptor debuff. They are also faction specific which is something I like.

    Hope that helps.

Elite Stingers have a 360 beam array so they are able to make use of the BO part of Coordinated Assault.

I think you have the Elite Stingers' weapon loadouts mixed up with something else. According to here, they don't have any beam weaponry. Unless Cryptic changed something up?

Edit: You're right, they DO have Beams. I had to look at my Nausicaan who has the Kosali and Elite Stingers.

So, this changes things quite a bit in my eyes. If you are running CRF+BO on your build, these things look a lot better with "Coordinated Assault" trait off the HEC Escorts.

    Thank you all for response.

The reason I thought Stingers would be better is because of array (which does more damage then cannon, besides cannon pets fly differently and get caught in warp core breaches more often) instead of Scorpion's cannon, and addition of the emergency to weapons. Both have torps and high yield so they're equal there. Then there's that, as above mentioned, plasma HY is targetable and slow, Stingers don't suffer from that.

But it seems Scorps are still superior in most of the cases. I do like Stingers are faction specific but as far as I understand, I need to buy Kolasi or the Fleet Guramba T6 to unlock them, correct?
Well at the very least, sound like Stingers aren't that far behind, and that warrants a try, no?

I sadly don't really run HECs, I have 4 carriers I like and run, Fleet Kar'fi, Narcine, Fleet Vo'quv and Dominion Dready, I found most of the frigates far behind in terms of damage compared to Scorps.

Now I need to get myself Kolasi to unlock them. :)
