Date & Time - Randomly throughout the day and moreso whenever I play 'Counterpoint'. Occurs in "waves". My char or ship will pause, then move, then pause, then move. After about three to five minutes the cycle sometimes repeats. During pauses, game does not respond to any input from me. However, during the pauses, I still take damage and move based on whatever input I chose just before the UI and my keyboard stop responding.

Sorry but these investigations seem to put the emphasis on OUR networks and OUR locations.. this isn't the case and it hasn't been since the game launched. Me and my house mate could be in the same map but different instances mine will run fine and his will have the whole team complaining of lag. The chat system seems completely uneffected by any lag that is seen on screen. It seems to me its the creation of new instances for stf teams that is the problem and it has been speculated by many many many people many times over the years that the fact is that once the servers have created a certain number of stf instances they simply can't handle the load. I also find it odd that the launcher gives an EU and US proxy option. Are the EU servers actually in Europe? If so why would u offer a US proxy to go from EU to USA then back to EU? (changing proxy does nothing btw.. good or bad, connection is the same). So ye... imo there is no point asking people what isp they have and where they are in the world.. anyone who'se been playing for years knows catagorically that this issue is not on the clients end atleast as far as connections go. Perhaps the client software but certainly not our networks.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong in most cases. Here in the UK, we experience very little lag, SNR's or DC's. I'm more than aware that the US/Canada networks prioritise traffic based on what a company pays for the bandwidth, however in the UK/EU there are laws in place that prevent that now. All traffic has equal priority here. You also have to factor in that no matter what speed of Fibre you have in place, many people forget that something as simple as watching Cable affects your speed too, as well as your distance from your nearest exchange. Add to this argument also, that I have a 14.6Mb standard Broadband package, and I don't get all these issues, then it's saying something about people's connections when they have 40Mb+ on Fibre!

Just experienced terrible rubberbanding in ISA. Not a single moment did my ship fly forward or reverse without doing the unintended opposite of these actions, in most cases at least three times over. Did not see any SNR messages, but there were a few occasions where the screen would freeze for a few seconds. At least one other team member was having the rubberbanding issues too.

I didn't see any special abilities being used that might cause it, no special things in the in-game battle report either at first glance.

I'm located near Amsterdam, The Netherlands, mission took place between 10 and 20 minutes ago.

Hope this gets fixed soon, I don't like spending possibly a hundred euros on Herald ships only to see them getting blown up 4, 5 times in a row.

Hey @pwlaughingtrendy, a quick google search for the IP: 198.49.243.253. which seems to be having an issue - based on the tracert above - has been reported by other players as well:

I just find it weird that only certain areas seem to commonly have the big problems. I'm in Ontario and rarely, if ever, get an SNR or major amount of lag (caused by connection issues, anyway). Unless the server is getting DDoS'd, it seems to run smoothly, but I often see tons of people on the west coast (like California) and southern east coast (like Florida) complaining about frequent SNR's or disconnections. Seems like a distance issue. /shrugs

I dunno. The next hop after that has a fast ping, so that device is simply taking a long time to respond to pings. This could indicate that it's throughput capacity is being strained. It seems logical for the device to give throughput a higher priority that pings.

Here a strange thing, this morning I used the launcher command line "-d3d11enable 0" and you won't believe how much more stable everything is. Even my abilities and weapons work better. Guess these older CPUs really don't like trying to switch to different versions of DirectX, weird....

I can tell you I live in washington state and there are alot of maps that are real laggy, mostly on the ground. But i get lag in the counter-command and terran task force maps as well and a few pve like the new link that mission is a lag fest from start to end, but that just my two cents. take it how you will.

Time: Just about all the time the past couple days. Random disconnects while collecting from doff and admiralty missions, and one toon is on Nimbus III and rubberbanding like someone's put a bungee cord between her and the city gate. (It's really quite aggravating when I'm scanning something, and suddenly get rubberbanded backward about thirty meters or so into a freshly-spawned mob.)

Most of the Day. During the Peak Times in most of the time zones VERY BAD LAG(recent) Map transfer issues disconnecting me from server each time. Trouble signing in most often getting "Login_2 Timeout" The lags seem to occur in mostly heavily populated areas. The STF's are nearly impossible to play during these lags and seem to be more affected by large numbers online. I have contacted my ISP and while I have a technically very low download/upload speed this has been my speed for the entire time I have been playing STO (about 3 years now) I have tried going from wireless to hardline with no affect. Also having the same issues as poster markhawkman(above comments) is having. And while I am not part of your team I have amassed a vast amount of data on a lot of these issues if you would like it. As a coder I thought it may come in handy, if you are interested in it please send me an email to my registered address( i will not post it publically). I hope this helps.

I am in Indiana as well and it's been bad, I mean real bad lately. I was disconnected 17 times in one afternoon. The worse times are at night. Borg STFs are a mine field. But others are not effected such Bug hunt, Korfezz, Azure Nebula work fine. Counterpoint seems to go up and down like a yo-yo. I think a lot of people are playing on there lunch break, it will be in 45 min to hour spurts where it will lag me out. Then around 2-3pm EST Boom lagging out the wazu. Also call me crazy but in the last week I have noted that there are A LOT of new players. I counted between the Fed and Klingon and Rom around 35 "Fresh" toons in a hour. You all know what I am talking about, all basic gear and looking like they can't find a bathroom. And they all seem to be mostly female. Also there has been a Huge Spike in Dil Exchange Prices as well. I mean it when up 235 to 270-285 in 10 days. That's waay to high of a jump. And odd part is the price to sell Zen is less to buy it. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Hey P3dr042! Actually it's extremely important for the very reason that you listed. If there's enough variance on ISP and Geolocation, then we can establish that it's not those issues. But you have to due course to ensure that you don't overlook a potential problem.

Personally, i'm having enough of these tracert tests. They will prove, for the nth time, that you cryptic guys are looking at the wrong target. F.e., i just had a CCA, an ISA, a KSA and CSA tour and, in all the instances, with different people, every single member complained about the horrible lag we're having at that moment. Different locations, different IPSs... well, i will post anyway my tracert. This time, it has a very large spike on the last phase, at the *.253 hop.

    Hey folks,

Now that I'm back from vacation, I'm trying to lock down the latency issues. Here's a little bit of transparency into my investigation. We have two separate teams effectively looking at this: Net and Software.

Net- The net operations team is looking into it purely from a networking standpoint. Is Cogent whining again? How's Internap doing? Are a majority of the problems coming from a specific ISP (Internet-Service-Provider) or seemingly localized in Michigan? Are they happening at certain times in the day?

    Why Michigan, oh why????! :o

    I'm a neighbour of Michigan :)

Day/Time: Usually, I play in the evening, so that is when I notice it the most. I was just online for about 45 minutes, and lagging was intermittent, sometimes for up to 30 seconds. It lagged maybe about 4-6 times, until the last when I got kicked off.

I've upgraded to a newer computer which helped some of the issues I was having. Generally there is more latency at high demand times though I still see the SNR message when loading into certain zones like earth space dock. I haven't gotten stuck there with my Romulan char like I was a month ago (PC issue) but it can be very slow at times. I do see a lot of lag in RA's though. Haven't run too many STF's so can't speak to those.

Edit: I did a reverse lookup on 198.49.243.256 and got the following response:
Reverse DNS: ** server can't find 253.243.49.198.in-addr.arpa: SERVFAIL

I personally think it might be something to do with the On-demand Patching or Patch server. I was suffering constant disconnects and I used the EU proxy on the patch server. And it started working. I get some rubber banding occasionally but no more disconnects. Food for thought maybe?

    ISP - iiNet
    Geo Location - Sydney, Australia
Date + Time of Day - Anytime.

Everytime I exit sector space to start a mission or go pretty much anywhere I get a server not responding and then a disconnect.

    ISP - TalkTalk

Date + Time - Basically whenever, peak times are the worst by far. Also tends to be at its worst when playing missions.

I no longer do any Bug Hunting work for Cryptic. I may resume if a serious attempt to fix the game is made.

    Update today:

Investigations don't seem to show network and server side as particularly the source of the "Latency". Latency reports happen in random geo locations and the time is random (specifically indicating that it's not linked to peak time when we have the most players on). We've talked to our Boston team and they've been stable for our 7 day testing period; there hasn't been any congestion.

We're still keeping an eye on it in terms of network issues, however I'm turning more of my eye towards software side. 19% of our current reports mention that lag happens in STF content which strongly suggests my attention to head towards software.

If the gut is saying software then it probably is. Gonna need the proverbial boot to smash this bug as a flyswatter ain't gonna be enough.

I don't want to fully rule out anything, including network-side of things.

Would wireshark logs help at all? If so I can set some up next time I play and gather logs but would need to know where to send them. I know you are less focused on network now but since this seems to be an amorphous issue it may help.

If you do, could you privately message that info?
