So I've been trying out builds for my Jupiter class. I've come up with a few builds that seem to work okay but I figure i'll see what sorts of input I can get from the community before I blow all my Fleet Credits on Elite fighters. I don't need to have top top DPS but I would like to optimize the balance of DPS and fun I can have with this ship.
The crux of the matter is that Coordinated Assault seems like a really fun trait to me. It helps me to feel more like my hangar pets are actively fighting with me I guess. The problem is that it means I must Keep my Carrier to the same type of weapon as it's fighters.
My favorite fighters are the Peregrines. I think the coolest loadout would Include 2 Sets of Peregrines or 1 set of Peregrines and 1 of Callistos
However this presents the problem that I must use Cannon type weapons. I've tried 6 turrets and although they do have the convenience of 360 degrees of fire, it's pretty rare to place well in Crystalline Catastrophe (The main method I have of testing dps.) The only choice left would seem to be Cannons or Dual Cannons yet the sluggish turn rate of the Jupiter makes a front firing build seem a bit unreliable and broadsiding is more fun with such a large ship anyways.
Alternatively there's always the beam array build. I know the common opinion is that Type 10 shuttles are useless, however, when using coordinated assault they feel pretty awesome. Every time I use Beam Overload, I get as many as 12 shuttles firing Beam Overloads alongside me. I seemed to do higher DPS with 2 sets of run-of-the-mill type 8s than I did with 2 sets of Elite Yellowstone Runabouts.
I'm very tempted to go all the way and buy some Elite Type 10s. Their torpedoes would even allow me to use the Carrier's Insult to injury trait for even more interactive fun with my fighter squadrons.
My other question is for my engineer. He's normally a dedicated tank Captain flying around in his Command Battlecruiser. And yet....I do love Carriers... If I threw a bunch of Fleet Threat boosting consoles in the science slots and bought myself a Fleet carrier with 4 engineering consoles to play with, even without Attract Fire, Could the Jupiter make a worthwhile tank?
Then there's my Science character. What is everyone's opinion of the Jupiter with a Torpedo/Exotic damage build? I would be stuck with front firing weapons which will be inconvenient. Yet I could load the Hangars with Delta Fliers to drain enemy shields to set the stage for my torpedoes to hit for their full damage...
So what's everyone's opinions on the issues stated above? Do you have any suggestions? Do you have any Jupiter builds you've had success with?

The thing about science builds is you have to really dedicate yourself 100% for them to be effective so that wouldn't leave an awful lot left for tanking. Ideally you need 350-400 points of particle generators, flowcaps etc. To make the build function well. However, going torpedo boat can free up build space that would be used on energy weapons so theoretically you could make a decent tank by putting universals over there. Personally I like my new Spire torpedo consoles but they aren't necessary.
As for the trait, it's cool but keep in mind you don't need to use those weapons yourself. If you have the space go ahead and use BO or CRF and let it enhance your pets. Coincidentally if using a drain build with torpedoes I put one omni beam in the back, combine with Overwhelming Force starship trait from the exchange and you do massive AOE shield draining...
Combine with Xindi Ateleth cruiser trait for extra lolz
Hope this helps!
P.S. Elite pets are expensive I wouldn't waste that many resources on type 10 shuttles. Get advanced if you must.
Bought the Jupiter myself in the sale and have been wondering how to build it
Fleet chat? You in DGJ too? Cool, yeah, hope I run into you then.
I don't mean I'm going to try and make a tank/science hybrid build. I have 3 Federation characters. Science, Engineering and Tactical. I was wondering if the Engineering guy could build a tanky carrier and the science guy could build an exotic damage carrier.
I just purchased that Overwhelming Force trait. looks cool. I'll have to try it out.

If doing a tank build I might supplement it as a drain build which would make it a great team support craft. I don't have much experience with tanking so you'll have to forgive me on that.
I'll try to put my builds on STO ACADEMY if I find the time today.

samt, as always, you have a very good point; they're about as durable as kleenex. And their hvy plasma torps move slowly, so they're not a good choice for a group situation where enemies are dying in 2-3 seconds. But for a solo carrier, where there is time, they will work well. And again, they are cheap.
I felt really sorry for the people who spent a small fortune on Elite Swarmers only to see them nerfed into irrelevance, and I just don't think hangar pets are worth spending much.
Advanced is much cheaper and almost as effective as elite.
I've used the Elite Scorpions on my Vesta part gens build for a while now, and they work well for me, (or as well as any hangar pets work since the massive nerf).
As long as you're looking at the Elite Scorpions under Rom Rep, you might also want to at least glance at the Elite Widows under Nukara Rep. I've never used them, but they are there.
The other thing worth remembering is that if you go to the Dilithium Store, there's a tab for hangar pets, and of course there are the cheap ones you can buy for EC in the shipyard at DS9.
